iPhone Software Update: Version 1.1.4 to 3.1.3

I've got an original iPhone (2G, 8GB) and it has the 1.1.4 version of the software on it. When I plug it into my iMac and open iTunes I get asked if I was to upgrade to the new 3.1.3 version.

I've not done this yet because I Unlocked and Jailbroke (adding Installer) my iPhone so that I could use the O2 Simplicity SIM with it (£19.99 per month - 1000 Texts, 600 Mins, Unlimited Internet Bolt On).

I did all of this with iLiberty+ (version 1.51).

All of my friends now have the new iPhones and have the App Store, can copy and past, etc. It's made me a bit jealous and I was wondering if upgrading would allow me to use the App Store?

My main worry is that my iPhone will no longer let me use the O2 Simplicity SIM. This would be a BIG problem because I can't afford to use any other service.

Has anyone with the same iPhone and SIM as me done this without any problems? Could you talk me though it if I need to do anything complicated?

Nope. UK iPhone. I bought it when they dropped to £170 without a contract a few years ago... about 6 months before the 3G!

You can use any O2 sim on it, doesn't need unlocked.

Then its already unlocked to O2 but if you upgrade you will lose the jailbreak.
As your on O2 simplicity you can get it unlocked officially for all networks from O2 here.

Something had to go wrong didn't it!

I just updated the software and got to the stage where you need to run redsn0w 0.9.4 and it doesn't work on my version of OSX!

I know have an iPhone with just the iTune and USB logos on the screen.

Next stop is my parents to use their Dell laptop with Windows Vista... fingers crossed it will work.

All sorted now!

I managed to get it to work on my parents laptop and then came home to sync it with my iMac.

Now to check out the App Store and Cydia.

You didn't check whether it did first???????!!!!

Better hope you weren't updating this phone for someone else and they read this thread!

I think it's because I still see my OS as being quite new... even though I'm now two versions behind. There was also a lot of things going though my head and checking to see if th programme worked wasn't one of them... well until I'd already started the software update!

Oh well, iPhone is now working fine. I just had to sort out the Cellular Data Network setting so get it to connect to the internet without Wi-Fi and that is now working.

Next step is to check out the App Store and Cydia to see if I can change the theme.
