New Argento releases from Arrow

Rather than flood a thread with swathes of press release info, I've posted the bulk of it on our blog, there's a post for each movie.

Arrow Video are putting out new editions of three Dario Argento movies on March 22nd 2010. There's new artwork, posters, a booklet and new extras to accompany the releases.

Here's the artwork with a link to each blog, which has the synopsis and details of the extra features...

No bluray, no interest Crying shame, as I'd love Opera in HD.

Gorgeous cover art and glad they are staying with the original British title for 'Opera'.

Can't view your blog post on the 'Opera' disc but the earlier Arrow disc was good for including the Italian audio, but the audio was imperfect and the subtitles were 'dub-titles' which was often very noticable. Hopefully this new disc will correct that.

My review of the original disc - Terror at the Opera.

Nice review from Total Sci-FI

Arrow's release are racking up, the City of the Living Dead Blu-Ray is rather nice, I'll have some info on that soon.

I wouldn't mind some of these actually.

I'm only bothered about Suspiria on blu Ray (less said about that the better, maybe one day..)

But these should more than suffice for some of his lesser works.

New arrow argento release

Another nice looking Arrow Video edition with new sleeve art, booklet and poster... the nominal sequel to Suspira, Inferno is coming soon, along with the Argento produced Demons 1 & 2.

Here's the pack shot and press stuff:

TWO EVIL EYES

TWO OF HORROR’S GREATEST DIRECTORS

DARIO ARGENTO AND GEORGE A. ROMERO

JOIN FORCES FOR ‘TWO EVIL EYES’.

Two Evil Eyes
(aka Due Occhi Diobolici) brings together two of the horror genre's greatest directors, George A. Romero (Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead) and Dario Argento (Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre, Sleepless), to remake two Edgar Allan Poe tales previously brought to the big screen by B-movie maestro Roger Corman in his 1962 film, 'Tales Of Terror'.

Directed by Romero, The Facts In The Case Of M. Valdemar tells the story of a scheming, cheating wife (Adrienne Barbeau) who convinces her psychiatrist lover (Ramy Zada) to hypnotise her dying husband (Bingo O'Malley) in order to get him to sign his fortune over to her. When the husband dies while still under hypnosis, he finds himself caught in a limbo between the worlds of the living and the dead, and hungry for revenge.
In The Black Cat, directed by Argento, Harvey Keitel plays Roderick Usher, a feline-hating, Weegee-like forensic photographer who, naturally, specialises in shooting pictures of death and murder scenes. When his wife, Annabel (Madeleine Potter) brings home a stray cat, Usher wastes no time in disposing of the animal. Unfortunately, the cat refuses to stay dead, prompting Usher's terrifying, murderous descent into madness.

Starring genre movie favourites Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Escape From New York, Creepshow), Tom Atkins (The Fog, Escape From New York, Creepshow, Halloween III:Season Of The Witch), Bingo O'Malley (Knightriders, Creepshow) and E.G. Marshall (Creepshow), alongside Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction), Sally Kirkland (The Sting, The Player, JFK), Kim Hunter (Planet Of The Apes), Martin Balsam (The Six Million Dollar Man, All The President's Men) and John Amos (Die Hard 2), the movie also marks the feature film debut of a young Julie Benz (Darla from TV's Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer).

Featuring plenty of bloody mayhem to please the gore-hounds, courtesy of special make-up effects wizards Tom Savini (Dawn Of The Dead, Creepshow, Day Of The Dead) and John Vulich (Day Of The Dead, TV's Buffy The Vampire Slayer), and set to a suitably chilling score by Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Dressed To Kill, The Howling), Two Evil Eyes is an essential addition to every horror aficionado's collection.

Two Evil Eyes (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Arrow Video on 10th May 2010.

Hmm... not keen on the cover. Still, that Stendhal one will take some beating

I don't know.. I think the Caligula takes the crown!

Well, not everyone can like each sleeve, but at least their thematically correct and look great as a collection. It's a pity I'm such a geek for keeping all the packaging together because the posters would look great on my walls.

Are all the Arrow covers painted by the same 14 year old boy?

You've got to be kidding? They're awesome! Any reason for no BD's of these? Too expensive to market?

They're terrible - look at the muscles/size of the hands on the Card Player generic busty woman, she's like some sort of tranny.

I do also wonder why Arrow don't release the good stuff on Bluray. I've sort of given up on them a bit.

My bet is that Arrow can only produce blu-ray discs if the HD materials already exist.

I dunno, I was never too keen on these covers, never that sure about the whole retro style packaging either. Until I started buying the DVDs, they look so much better in the flesh

I love the Silent Night, Deadly Night and Stendhal covers though. Great stuff!

They are reversible as well, if you really don't like the new artwork.
