Xbox 360 Voice Chat Dropout
Been noticing this for a while but would really like to get it fixed now.
Whenever I'm playing, it seems that I can communicate fine with other players but that what I hear back misses some of the words. I'd guess that if one of the other players were to count up to 100, I'd miss 3-4 of those numbers as a group in every 15-20. As such, I get sentences with the middles of them disappearing, and one-word answers often disappear completely. Annoying. I'm using the wireless headset, but I don't think that's the issue - I just recorded a 15 second message counting from 1-30 and played it back to myself - was flawless, so the headset is communicating with the 360 in both directions without hitch. Network-wise, I run a test and get no problems (NAT included) showing up. Finally, I'm mainly doing this in parties - tend not to bother with full game chat - so I don't know if the parties are bugged, but I don't get the impression any of my friends are having equivalent problems. Is there anything I can try?! |

Have you tried a wired one? I will tonight.
And what about recording and replaying a message? |

I used the wired headset to the wireless controller and have exactly the same issues. Sometimes it's like listening to Norman Collier.
It must be either xbox live comms being ropey in general, or my ISP. I'm with Virgin Media.

I'm wondering if it's how I connect the 360 that's the problem.
I have a modem/router in the living room but that's Wireless G, and the 360 is in a unit with a few other things including an HTPC that I want Wireless N for. So, the modem/router connects to an Apple Airport Extreme (wireless N base station), which then talks to an Airport Express in the bedroom. That's then hooked up to a wired router (or is it a switch?! ) which is then wired into the HTPC, the 360, and other devices.Perhaps I should just get the Wireless N receiver for the 360 and have done with it. |

We used to get this a fair bit with Harsin, he would be telling a funny little anecdote like he does and bits of it would just cut out total silence then he'd come back in telling the tale. I think it's since resolved as it's been fine for ages but I have heard other people do it. Maybe its to do with how close you have the mic to your head?
In your test you were deliberately testing the sound rather than a regular chat rate so maybe that's it. |

Thanks for that but with my problem my outgoing chat seems to be fine. It's what I hear that I'm getting dropouts on.

But if I'm Harsin in your example, you'd hear the full story, and everyone in the chat would hear you (or anyone else) talking back to him, but he'd lose bits of you. I don't think that's quite the same - in your example isn't Harsin having problems sending chat?

No, we're having problems hearing him. Everyone hears him cut out, but he is continually talking.

Yeah, so a different issue. Going to borrow a wireless dongle from a mate tomorrow, see if that sorts things out.
