Ebay Resolution Centre and refund question. Crazy buyer!

Hello,

I have a query if anybody can help please.

I sold 2 tickets on ebay last weekend (27/28th Feb) for a for a play on Saturday 6th March (2 days ago).

I sent the tickets out last Monday 1st March via special delivery and assumed they had been delivered fine.

Then the buyer contacted me on Saturday afternoon, less than 5 hours before the performance was due to start, asking where the tickets are and giving me their mobile number.

I have checked and Royal Mail attempted delivery and left a "while you were out" card. I never passed on the tracking code to the buyer but assumed the tickets had arrived as I never heard from the buyer.

Now he wants a refund. I can only assume he is either very disorganised or changed his mind about wanting the tickets.

He has opened a case with ebay and I have no faith in them showing common sense and seeing that there was not much I could do at such a late time.

What is likely to happen, and can they force me to refund him? (I have 14 pence in my PayPal account)

Any help or advice appreciated ;o) Thanks!

If they attempted delivery on 2nd March and they didn't collect them, that's their lookout.

Common sense would say that they aren't due a refund - ebay / paypal exist in a parallel universe though, so anything might happen.

Make sure you go into PayPal and add the tracking information to the transaction. That way when/if PayPal review it, they'll be able to see that a delivery attempt was made - the buyer should have asked for you to deliver to an address where somebody was available to sign. You did send to the same address as was listed against the PayPal transaction?

In my experience, you'll put in all the effort, details etc and even your side of things will check out with Paypal, but ultimately they will side with the buyer, refund him with your money, and then you'll have to claim it back from Royal Mail.

I'd be willing to bet money on this happening. It's nuts!

eBay and Paypal require proof of delivery. You have proof that it wasn't delivered. There might be special rules for tickets and time-sensitive goods, but if not, then I expect eBay to side with the buyer on this.

Why oh why didn't you give the buyer the tracking number and also check for yourself the next day to see if it had been delivered? The buyer should have contacted you sooner to chase up the "missing" tickets but I would not be surprised if ebay side with the buyer.

What's worse is that I don't think you can claim anything back from Royal Mail as they have done what they are supposed to do.

Absolutely - you won't get anything from Royal Mail.

Given that you have a tracking number and see that delivery was attempted I think PayPal may actually side with you. I've never sold anything like tickets but the couple of times I've had a buyer raise a complaint about non-delivery and supplied PayPal with either a Rec or SD tracking number they've favoured me, even when it shows it wasn't delivered!

PayPal/eBay should side with you but make sure you try and keep on good terms with the Seller and list the entire story within the claim windows with lonks to screengrabs of the tracking etc.

There could have been some sort of mixup somewhere and I think you've also left yourself open to error, abuse and mistake.

Expect negative feedback too if you annoy the Seller.

All they have to do is go to the PO and they have what they ordered, surely. Its their problem they are now worthless for not doing so earlier.

I would ring up the PO people and check if the tickets were collected. I don't think the tracking is updated after the card is left.

The tracking is updated when they collect.
