Loco Nick Simmons: The Future of American Manga!!

Ok so you're the son of a rock legend and massive fan of manga comics who has created, written, and pencilled a new US manga serial called Incarnate - what's an intelligent, original way to make this comic a success? I know, I'll rip off the artwork from some of the highest-profile Japanese manga comics (in the states anyway) of the last couple of years!

Nick simmons caught extensively plagiarising Bleach, and to a lesser extent: other manga like Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist

Seriously, does this idiot think he's the only American who reads manga or something? The geek fury is already steamrolling!

Every Manga comic looks the same to me any way.

To someone unfamiliar with the style, they could easily look very similar. Manga and anime can be very very formulaic in story structure and character archetypes. Whilst it does look like this chap has been plagiarising, there is a certain generic style. Besides who is to say that Nick is actually the perpetrator as both story and art seem to have been copied, and I think it is unusual for one person to do both.

The concept of American manga is redundant anyway.

While bad manga drawing can look generic, there is a difference between not having an original style, and TRACING panels out of another comic wholesale. The latter has been shown to be happening here.

the wierd thing is, that he must actually be able to draw - so close copying like this makes no sense - especially as it was always going to be found out.

He's released an official statement (reported on several manga sites)

“Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium.

“I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me.”

Obviously skirting around some issues. Radical Publishing has suspended the book.
