Home Networking (possible silly question)
Hi everyone,
I have found an old wireless router (bebox, thomson speedtouch 780) in one of the cupboards. I was wondering if there is anyway I can set this up in another room of my house and get it to work as an access point (connect up to the Sky Wireless router) so I can plug in another PC and XBOX360, niether of which are Wireless Enabled. I wouldnt need the bebox to put out a wireless signal, just to recognise the current wireless network and work as an access point to the WLAN. Im relatively new to networking, understand some basics but nothing too in depth so am not sure if this is possible. Any suggestions/information would be fantastic. Thanks, Rua Last edited by rua; 13-02-2010 at 18:42. Reason: Added more information regarding router. |

I think it will probably work.
What you're asking it to do is be a wireless bridge (repeater?) You may find that listed in the feature list. It seems others are asking the same question, so it may or may not be straightforward. http://www.adsl2forum.co.uk/showthre...?t=7284&page=4 |

When I looked at doing this the Sky router had the necessary configuration options were inaccessible from the config menus thanks to the stupid sky firmware..
I may have miss-understood, but I think you need to effectively enable bridging on both the Sky router and the Speedtouch. |

I'd opt for a homeplug or something silimar - wireless bridging is a pain in the butt to set up and IME flaky to operate at the best of times

Yeah Id agree with Fatbloke. Far too much hassle compared to homeplugs.
