Help Creating web page and Domain name

Hi
I wonder if someone can tell me how I go about creating a web page and where to go to register a domain name. I am starting a new business which I want a website for and dont have much funds so anything that is cheap to go to would help

I know the name I want isn't taken which is a good start.
Cheers for taking time to read my post.

Probably easiest method:

1. Buy basic hosting and domain at Vidahost
2.Login into the Cpanel for your domain once you have bought it, and install Wordpress via the Installatron
3.Go to www.themeforest.net and choose a wordpress theme you like, buy it, and follow the instructions to install it.
4.Update content using wordpress.

Depending on what you're selling, see what templates are available at http://freecsstemplates.org, or http://www.themeforest.net. The freecsstemplate ones tend to be more 'blog' orientated, although you can get some nice ones.

Although overkill, I'd strongly suggest using a CMS for your site, such as MonkeyCMS (see monkeycms.com). It takes a little longer to get going, but the overall results are far better than uploading static HTML files via FTP, etc. Especially when getting your site up and running. Adding a new page is so easy.

I'd recommend Vidahost for hosting, as their servers are always up, and their support is second to none. I've several sites hosted on their servers, and never had a problem.

some bloke rang me up today and asked me how much for a simple site for his business - professionally done and looking good, i quoted him £300 as it was a couple of days work and he said that he expected to pay about £50.

I asked him if he would do 2-3 days work for £50 and he said no. So i asked him why he thought i would and he couldn't answer that. Then i asked if he had a printed brochure done, if he'd expect to pay only £50 for all the design and layout and he said no, but still seemed to think my time was worth about £16 a day. What a dick.

Anyhow, if you're doing it yourself and you've no experience i *strongly* suggest the wordpress/themeforest route - themeforest themes are extremely good for the money and they have very stringent guidelines so only well coded templates get on there. I think if you go the CMS route and doing your own front end, you'll end up back here in a week - alot more confused but no better off.

At the end of the summer I quoted £1500 for a pretty large site ( design, layout, keywording, a ton of photos to crop, colour correct & optimise - the whole shabang ) but was told by the company director that their budget for the site was £500 maximum.
He said he didn't understand why I was so expensive as he had prepared the entire site for me in MS Word so all I had to do was copy and paste.

Almost forgot - to the OP.

If you are sure of your domain name get it registered ASAP. The forum affiliate Vidahost has an excellent rep so don't bother trying to shave £1 off the fee by shopping around and maybe ending up with less than reliable domain reg company.

After you have your domain at least you can relax for the near future and sort out the other bits and pieces.

Nothing more annoying than seeing a domain snapped up just as you were about to snag it yourself.
