The DVD Forums Games of 2009 *Results Thread*
The numbers have been crunched & the results are, whether my laptop can avoid 'just switching off' (yet again!) long enough for me to publish them is another matter though.

Participation was down on recent years (80 this year compared to 98 last) but this can be put down to a) the voting thread going live over 2 weeks later and b) I didn't 'bump' as religiously this year, both just down to lack of time on my part. It didn't affect the number of games nominated however and in fact this year 118 different titles were chosen compared to 116 last. This in part can be put down to the growing popularity of iPod/Mobile gaming. A massive 72 of those titles voted are available on Xbox 360, 13 exlusively. That's the same as last year (I include XBLA btw) but there are a couple other console exclusive games such as Left 4 Dead 2 & Zeno Clash that are on PC/iPod/Mobile but not PS3/Wii. The PS3 chipped in with 15 of it's own exclusives, up again on the previous year and also had votes for Trine, available on PC but no other console. Like the 360 72 are available on PS3, 73 are playable if you have a full_phat_60gb'er. Around 43 are avilable for PC, I say around because I'm a little sketchy about the availability of some of the iPod/Mobile titles. This year there were only 6 exclusives across the whole vote, the highest of those just making the Top 30. There's certainly a lot less love for the Wii amongst the forum than there was a year or two ago. The vote featured 6 exclusives and none of them had an impact on the top-end. Just 22 of the games are available on Wii. Whilst the Nintendo & Sony's handhelds had easily their worst ever year, DS just 2 exclusives & PSP the one (plus GTA: Chinatown Wars for each), iPod & other mobile phone titles saw a great surge of interest. Chhers Mr Moby, looking forward to the rest. One point - Plants vs Zombies isn't out on the iPod yet - it's PC or Mac only at the moment, so that should probably be in the Anticipated section!

Lol. Didn't even see the thread this year so didn't manage to vote. No one else excited about Mario Galaxy 2? Maybe it's not out this year.

So here you are the final 10. Are there any surprises? Possibly the positioning of one or two, but for owners of a PS3 and a 360 then perhaps less so.

Kind of bizarre Demons Souls is so down the list as to not make the PS3 Top10. It all reads a little safe and generic tbh, I guess MW2 is to do with popularity rather than quality. Congrats on putting it all together.

To echo those above me, thanks for taking the time to do this. One question I do have, with the 360 and PS3 lists, because not everyone specified a platform for the multiformat games, how did you separate out someone that may have played say Uncharted 2 on the PS3 and Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 who didn't specify the format for Modern Warfare 2? Is MW2 just counted twice, once for each list? Batman, Borderlands etc the same?
And yes Batman: Arkham Asylum really is that good, one of the best games of this generation so far and possibly the best game featuring a well known superhero ever.

I'm amazed Batman beat Uncharted 2 tbh. Guess it must be the 360 people who haven't played Uncharted.
Batman's a great game but suffered a little through the backtracking which got a little annoying (for me anyway) towards the end and the crappy boss fights. Last edited by Fever Dawg; 26-01-2010 at 09:43. |

I assume the PS3 list was calculated as a "games available on the ps3" list as opposed to a "this is what people who own a PS3 thing" list?
I would have thought Uncharted would have won on the PS3, but i suppose over the course of all systems that it'll dilute the uncharted vote. R |
