INXS - New Lead Singer Is......... (Spoiler)

Spoiler:
J D Fortune.

For those who have not been watching Rock Star INXS, there was a pop idol style contest to find new singer from 15 hopefuls (several which were imo very good).

He wasn't my favourite but its probably the best result for those involved

I've put my opinion in a spoiler as the description might give the game away otherwise but IMHO they've picked....

Spoiler:
a second rate Michael Hutchence impersonator, who will condemn INXS to a life on the cabaret circuit.

Who picked the winner? Was it a phone in vote or was it the members of INXS themselves?

I watched a little bit of the programme on VH1 last night (Brooke Burke was looking particularly attractive) and saw songs by 2 of the contestants before turning back to the football ( Doncaster). As I was watching these 2 performers I thought to myself "I know exactly who''l win - they'll pick the safest, blandest one" and I see from your posts that I wasn't wrong.

I do feel that
Spoiler:
Suzie
will probably have a good shot at a solo career tho.

Now the show is over its fair to say I'm very disappointed. Seen as "Full Moon..." and "Elegantly..." didn't sell particularly well I'm not sure what they're hoping to achieve by going for the more of the same approach. It seems they had the chance to do something different but ended going back to their comfort zone. In that respect Mig was the perfect metaphor for the show and the band.

What a major set-up though. JD did EVERTHING wrong and should have been booted out ages ago - failed in the studio (how important is that if in a band?), failed at songwriting as part of a group, didn't get on with anyone, stabbed people in the back - again, all things crucial to a band!

He generally wasn't a very nice person so wondering why INXS would want to spend all their working lives with him over the coming years. This to me suggests it was a set-up.

Also, how come he could just launch into the new single at the end so seemlessly and prepared - it must have been rehearsed and i'm not convinced the other 2 losers rehearsed it also just in case they won.

Finally, both Mig and Marty did the WORST thing in the final (Mig played Queen even though he was trying to leave the tribute band behind him) and Marty did a song he had already done about 3 times! Again, this was blatantly planned to show that they could not hack the finale and give people a reason for them to lose!

I'm a big INXS fan but I've not seen any of the series - didn't event know it was airing in th U.K.

Anyway, I've just heard the new single "Pretty Vegas" for the first time and it sounds pretty good to me. Nothing highly original, but it's got that beefed up guitar sound that I think worked pretty well on tracks like "Heaven Sent" and "Time".

Anyway, whether it was a set-up or not, he sounds like a half decent vocalist and I'll give the CD a try (its out next week).

I never saw the Rockstar series and used to be an INXS fan.
But i've just heard this single and all i can think of is that they must have just been auditioning for a Michael Hutchence impersonator coz he sounds uncannily like him!
It's not as bad as i thought it would be though and i might have to give the new album a spin when it's out.

Finally received the album from Amazon and listening to it a couple of times.

Not a bad effort - a few good tracks, a few interesting tracks and a few bland tracks.
Whilst the bvious focus is going to be the new lead singer, with comparisons with MH, I think that if there is a slight let down, it's in the songwriting department.

Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence were obviously a fabulous songwriting team and Andrew Farriss has shown that he can write some corking stuff on his own. But on this album, there are only a few where this strength shows.

I still think Pretty Vegas is an excellent single though!
