'Les Roseaux sauvages' DVD
I'm very keen to see Les Roseaux sauvages but there seems to be a lack of any good DVD editions available. The USA DVD is distributed by Fox Lorber (never a good sign) and I believe it's pan and scanned (or at the very least cropped signifcantly). The French DVD unfortunately lacks subtitles of any kind.
Does anyone know of a good DVD edition of this film - or is the R1 release just about passable? |

Fact is, we will have to wait 1-2 years for decent - subtitled - versions of French films. The DVDs the French issue are usually very good quality but (obviously for business reasons) come without any subtitles (not even French ones). If there were subtitles, everybody would buy them and those holding distributors' rights for non-French speaking areas would not be able to cash in on those rights.. Still, I am pretty sure that these films will come out in 1-2 years in the UK with subtitles or - if not - after a certain period the French will put subtitles on their own DVDs.
So I suggest to you 1)ifyou can, be patient and you will see a UKedition ofLes Roseaux Sauvages in 2 years 2) if you can't there is a decent Tartan video (VHS) version which can serve as a stopgap until then (I have it, too). |

Just to update, I ended up buying Tartan's VHS edition which actually wasn't too bad. Good film to boot. I'm tempted to get the French DVD anyway, even though my ability to understand French is moderate at best, not least because of its rather tantalising extra features.
