I'll probably do the same as the are not as good as the Michael Connelly Harry Bosch series.

Any recommendations for another series of books..have read Deaver, MacBride and Connelly and have preferred the latter with the Harry Bosch series?

Since my last post I read:

Declare by Tim Powers which was a fantastic read mixing up second world war and cold war history with a supernatural conspiracy. Recommended

The Awful German Language by Mark Twain a humorous essay detailing his difficulties with learning German.

Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk which is a brilliant black comedy. Very difficult to read, but worth the effort.

Zenith Angle by Bruce Sterling

Fragrant Harbour by John Lanchester - really compelling love story set against 100 years of Hong Kong history.

Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein - a bit disappointed with this one.

Bank of the Black Sheep by Robert Lewis

Little Machines, a collection of short stories from Paul Mcaulay.

The Veiled Detective by David Stuart Davies another "Lost" Sherlock Holmes adventure

Gentlemen and Blackguards: Gambling Mania and the Plot to Steal the Derby of 1844
by Nick Foulkes an intersting social history og gambling in the early 1800's

The Wavewatcher's Companion by Gavin Pretor-Pinney which I found really disappointing.

The Parasite by Ramsay Campbell.

Looking for Jake and Other Stories by China Mieville which contains a brilliant story about streets that travel around the worlds cities.

Millennium People by J.G. Ballard which concerns a middle class rebellion I really enjoyed this one.

Read the Seventh Bullet by Daniel Victor another Sherlock Holmes pastiche, this time a "secret history" in which Holmes and Watson travel to the US to investigate the conspiracy surrounding the murder of campaigning journalist David Graham Phillips whose investigations of corruption in the US senate eventually lead to the 17th Amendment to the US constitution and the direct election by popular vote of the senate. An enjoyable read.

Been on holiday and managed to work through: -

The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks - Totally messed up, loved it.
Imperium - Robert Harris - Superb, if a little watered down Roman fun.
Inversions - Iain M Banks - Brilliant culture-lite sci-fi
Fractured - Karin Slaughter - Good build up with a weak ending
Little Girls Lost - J.A. Kearly - Good mindless holiday reading
Pegasus Bridge - Stephen Ambrose - Amazing stuff
Handling the Undead - John Ajvide Lindqvist - Much anticipated follow up to Let the Right One In which didn't quite work - Disappointing.
Rubicon - Tom Holland - Brilliant historical narrative of Ancient Rome, loved it.

And just started Crooked Little Vein - Warren Ellis - Excellent so far

It's amazing how much you can read when you've got no work / internet / Xbox distractions

I'm 3/4 of the way through Light, SF, by M. John Harrison. Apparently a love it or hate it book, I'm loving it. Several diiferent times and places that initially seem unrelated gradually come together, but in a tantalising way so that you can't quite see the full story.
