LG 26LC55 TV stopped working- help please :(
Hi,
My LG 26LC55 LCD TV stopped working yesterday. It's just over 1 year and 4 months old and I have only used it for gaming on my PS3. Everything was fine on Sunday night when I last turned it off. However, upon turning it on yesterday I discovered the TV was stuck on standby mode and refused to switch on. ![]() I tried taking the plug out, use 2 alternative mains plug, try a different plugs socket, and even wait a whole day... to no joy ![]() Basically, either the red standby light disappears then reappears after a few minutes when switching the TV on, or a green light flashes for a second before the reds light reappears. I have tried switching it on directly from the TV, via the remote, but no luck. I tried searching the net, but have not found the problem/solution. I have emailed LG, and am currently waiting for a reply. Being over 12 months old, it is out of warranty. It was bought brand new from PRCdirect.co.uk and this is the first time the TV has messed up. Anyone know what the problem is and how much repair would cost? Any help/advice appreciated Thanks

I wouldn't bother with e-mail, phone is really the best way to go in order to determine the next course of action. Try the retailer first, since your contract is really with them; the one year warranty from the manufacturer is in addition to that. The sales of goods act applies in that you can reasonably expect a television to last longer than one year (i.e. a product is meant to be of "satisfactory quality"). But of course they may say it's not their problem and that you have to speak to the manufacturer once the guarantee runs out (which is incorrect). On the other hand, they might offer to get it looked at for you. It otherwise depends how far you want to take things and the time you want to spend trying to get it resolved (- you could try your local citizen's advice bureau for some advice). If you don't get anywhere with that, LG do have a customer support number for out of warranty service options. It's 0844 847 5454.
It's tricky to say what the fault might be and hence how much it would cost to repair. Maybe a problem with the power inverter since it doesn't come out of standby properly. You need to get it looked at really. Either that, or use it as an excuse to get something bigger. ![]() Robert Last edited by rwniel; 10-03-2010 at 22:39. |

After contacting LG, they are willing to pay 50% of the repair costs. But upon googling, it's not cheap. Can anyone help please?

The Which? website has a simple guide on Understanding the Sale of Goods Act. It includes sample letters.
Pretty sure it's not restricted to Which? members only - I accessed the pages without logging in. |
