Question O2 Broadband Router Settings

I recently got my O2 router and just wanted some help with the settings.

I'm use to my parents router, which was a Netgear one, and for that I logged on and changed the router name, password and upped some of the security settings.

Can I do the same with the O2 router? I logged on a changed the password but I couldn't see where to change the name and security settings.

Is this something that I can do on this router or should I look at buying another Netgear?

Also, I found that I couldn't connect to the internet when using my iPhone. I could see the router but it wouldn't connect when I entered the password.

Thanks,

Psycho

When you say name you mean SSID? If so then yes you can change the name.

I connected my wifes iPhone fine, added it to the list of allowed devices on the router as well.

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-...nd),CASE=12648 should be of some use.
Also, you might have set the security password for the router, but not the WPA or WEP key for the wireless.

The SuperUser login gives you more options. Password could be the serial number of the router or O2Br0ad64nd

I finally got to have another look at my router last night and still could work it out. It seems totally different from my Netgear one and I can't seem to find the options I'm use to.

I know that I have changed the password but for some reason when I go to my iPhone settings and select Wi-Fi I can see my router listed but it won't allow me to connect. I select it and it asks for my password, I then entre the new one that I set up but it says it can't connect.

On the router settings I couldn't see the option to change the name, i.e. O2router1243675 - is this the SSID? There seem to be a few people in our block using O2 and the router names are all very similar apart from the number. I wanted to change it to something I'd be able to spot without having to try and remember the number, i.e. Router123.

Wooglie, how do I access the SuperUser login?

Accessing the Box

The router admin pages can be accessed via http://192.168.1.254.

To quote O2, "when you first receive your O2 wireless box it is set to a default username and password to allow you quick and easy access without any need for additional usernames and passwords". This means access to the Box is wide open so you are strongly recommended to set a password to restrict access. To do this go to "User Management" and next to Administrator choose "Change my password". You'll now be presented with three blank fields. In the first "Old Password" leave it blank, in the other two type your new password. After confirming you'll then be asked to enter your username and password. These will now be Administrator (note the capital A) and the password you've previously entered. You now have access to a number of functions within the router.

For the adventurous or those with a little more knowledge there is a hidden "Superuser" account. To access this log in to the router with username SuperUser (note the capital S and U) and password O2Br0ad64nd (thats digits 2064 and the first O and B being capital letters). You'll now have access to pretty much all the functionality that you'd get with generic Thomson firmware including access to the router stats.

In case it wasn't absolutely clear, as it wasn't to me as I read down the thread - there should be several passwords.

1. - will log in to the router settings.

2. - the wifi password is completely different to this first one, and can be edited by going into the wifi settings - its the WPA or WEP key.

I think I'm just being VERY dumb here!

So, there is a Username and Password to log onto the router and then there is another Password that allows access to the Wi-Fi connection.

When I first logged onto the router I went to User Management and selected 'Change my password'. I then followed the instructions that milgo has since posted.

All this did was change the Password to the router log on?

I can't see any options in when logged onto the router, either basic or SuperUser, that will allow me to change the Wi-Fi password... I can't see anything about Wi-Fi at all.

Neither can I see an option to change the name that comes up on my iPhone when searching for a Wi-Fi connection, i.e. O2wireless628___

I've since been able to connect to the Wi-Fi on my iPhone by entering the password Administrator. It shows me as being connected and I have the wi-Fi icon at the top of the screen. But as soon as I check my emails or use Safari the icon changes to the EDGE one and is slow.

I'm not sure if this might be the problem...

The iMac that I'm using doesn't have a Wi-Fi option and I'm connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. when setting everything up from the O2 disc I wouldn't have selected to set it up for a Wi-Fi connection.

I just stuck the disc back it and tried selecting this option and it says 'Plug in your AirPort and press Retry or press Back to select an Ethernet connection'.

So, does it look like the router hasn't been set up for Wi-Fi and this is why I can't see the options when I'm logged onto the router?

How can I get around this?

I might be getting somewhere now! I didn't spot the small 'Configure' option at the top right. I'm just checking that out now.

I think I'm up and running!

I set the following:

Network Name (SSID): I changed this to something I'd spot easier
Encryption: Use WPA-PSK Encryption
WPA-PSK Encryption Key: This seems to be the Wi-Fi password!
WPA-PSK Version: WPA+WPA2

I left all the other settings as they were.

Interface Enabled: Ticked (Wi-Fi turned on?)
Interface Type: 802.11b/g (should I change this?)
Channel Selection: Automatically
Allow multicast from Broadband Network: Ticked
Broadcast Network Name: Ticked (I take it this allows me to see the SSID name on my iPhone?)
Allow New Devices: New stations are allowed automatically

On speedtouch routers the wifi password is usually printed on the bottom label
