Gorillaz: Plastic Beach
Just heard the new single 'Stylo'.....
![]() Loving it...just dug out the albums and ordered 'g-sides', 'd-sides' & 'Laika Come Home' (I hope they are good...I have no idea why I have not already got them) What a tune 'Dare' is off 'Demon Days'! Any other fans?

I like 'em. Dunno if any album satisfies all the way through, but very good singles band...
Have the two main albums and Laike Come Home. Can't remember how good the latter is, but it's verging on dub reggae iirc. (In which case, there's prob better examples out there.) Last edited by Johnny Vodka; 05-02-2010 at 21:55. |

Sounds very interesting. I've got some of HBE's earlier stuff and anybody who doesn't know should look them up on YT and see their live street performances. Very good.

Had a quick listen to the stream at work and it didn't grab me like the first two albums. Will still pick it up though.

I know what you mean, Art - I'm still waiting for that essential "hook" to drag me back. What I've heard so far is a bit "meh"...

Is it self produced? The first two had a very distinctive feel, partly because of the producers (Automator/Danger Mouse respectively IIRC)

The one that's getting the radio airplay at the moment is so downbeat it's untrue.
XFM's 'interview/playthrough' with one of the band members/characters yesterday was one of the more embarassing things I've heard broadcast, it sounded like Phil Cornwell reading a fanfic script in a voice that was half gilbert the alien, half simon cowell. |

Very disappointing. I've listened to it twice now and nothing sticks in my head.

I'm loving the new album... I was a bit worried after listening to the first couple of tracks, but things really pick up in the 2nd half (with more Albarn). The more I listen to it, the more I like it. I was the same with Demon Days, it seems to take a few listens to adapt to each phase.
My fave track at the mo is "Some Kind of Nature" with Lou Reed. Even Stylo is growing on me and I didn't really like that on first listen. Will be interesting to see how this does saleswise, cos it's not an overly commercial album. |

Strange that because to my ears there's easily 4 or 5 singles on it.
