I don't see how you can slate netbooks for not running software specifically designed for Apple products. It'd be like me having a go at the iPad for not running Windows 7 (or the millions of Windows apps that most netbooks can run).
I'm not slating netbooks, not sure where you got from (possibly the same place where you think I'm a marketers dream ). I'm simply showing that there is a market for these devices, just like there's a market for netbooks. It just so happens that they are different markets with some cross-over and each device can do things the other cannot.

You've just described every PC, laptop and netbook, and a sizeable number of smartphones.
Each device you listed has it's place, are you so convinced there's no place for another device? If so, why? As previously stated these are ideal for a no fuss, instant access to rich media where the user can't break the O/S.

I have an old compaq like that, it was very useful in its day.

I even used it with a usb gps and navigated around eurpope and the med!

The cost of the PS3 is an outrage - its far too low. I would willingly sell my house and all my possessions to help fund Sony and buy more of its wonderful products.

This device will probably come into it's own when the app developers get cracking - it's that which made the iphone/ipod touch so good imo - the basic functionality was good but a bit of creativity turned it into an awesome gadget. Especially with the aggressive pricing of so many of the apps.

I'd like one as it would a cracking device for the coffee table (especially with a programmable remote app) and for reading books/magazines/comics in bed (I can do that on the ipod touch but obviously the big touchscreen is perfect for this).

If they had a mixing desk app, now that would blow me away. There's already a ProTools control surface for the iPhone - when stuff like that gets ported its gonna be in a whole class of its own.

I can see a use for this sort off. . .

Currently I use my Iphone to read the news, check facebook and twitter with a coffee before I leave for work on the sofa. Just tap the app and I get what I need, easy

Before my Iphone it was on my laptop, loading email client, clicking round in a web browser.

before that, it was sat in my office doing the same thing...

The Ipad, once it gets the new paper feeds sorted, could be the idea morning routine thing, papers sync at 4am for the day ahead, read them, check mail and check the normal apps.... expensive but the way forward possibly..

Perhaps some of the negative views may soften a bit when (after a few months/years) we see what app writers can do with the new screen and faster CPU.

Must admit though, the (for want of a better word) home screen seems to be very unimaginative.

There is no multitasking for 3rd party stuff. Apple can multitask their own apps on the device.

Not really.

Their apps (and some 3rd party ones) can use push notifications and the like, iPod app being able to play music is a logical allowance and wouldn't require much processing power. 'Proper' multitasking (i.e. running stuff in a dock or taskbar) will probably never happen on an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad.

This is the future of computing (certainly casual/social computing) as Apple sees it.

I'll look to have a go with one as soon as they're out over here as I'm really intrigued in what almost everyone who has experienced one has said - don't knock it until you've tried it.

I still think it'll be overpriced and I don't need one.

Yes really. The caveat is that the apps must be part of the Core OS. the iPod, clock (timer, countdown, alarm etc), phone and even Safari can all run at the same time in the background whilst you run another app. You are free to use the phone and browse the web at the same time for example.

There's nothing to stop Apple adding applications to the core OS and allowing them to multi-task as well. Saying that though, there's nothing stopping them adding multi-tasking full stop, have you guys seen the multi-task manager apps for the iPhone (jailbroken only of course), absolutely stunning what these guys are doing without official support with the only issues being the reduced battery life and memory (on the first/2nd gen devices, not so much on the 3G[S]).

As I said it before, that's one hell of an unimaginative front screen for their new device.

Its a great device for people who dont want to be bothered with a computer to twitter , facebook and watch movies.

Its limitations as a computing device to these people will never be noticed.

I had an iMac G3 and thought it was quite good, and seeing it's age was impressed that it actually ran OSX

Not got an iPhone due to it's price.

Looked at more modern iMacs and they look nice, but I have 2 problems with a purchase

1: I've got nowhere to put it.
2: I would turn it on to do the things I wanted to do, and then turn the PC on to do other things.

I guess that's my reason for not having a Mac.
It's not that I don't like them (apart from the slightly whiffy graphics cards they insist on knackering the machines with)
It's just that as a PC does everything I struggle to find a valid reason to get one.

If there were some jaw dropping things a mac could do that a PC could not, and I went ohh ahh, I want I want, then I'd probably get one.

I think Apple should be applauded for their designs, It's the CONTROL I wish they would slacken off a bit.
