It all depends if happle also help towards creating an ebook standard and supply ePUB from their store as well or if they'll lock their books down to their own apple filetype... :P

The thing is I am probably the kind of person who is the idea target market for this. I actually think it's a REALLY cool idea, and if I could subscribe to my daily newspaper and have it downloaded to this to read it during my lunchbreak at work, and pay a monthly fee to download x number of ebooks which could be "returned" at the end like a library then I would be all over it.
The trouble is, there is no way I can afford one at these prices and if I have to pay those prices for books then forget it. Now, if it did everything my laptop could do, but with a touchscreen then i would sell my laptop to get one. But however good the keyboard is - writing a 2000 word review on it? I don't think so. I also doubt the onboard storage would be enough to make it a laptop replacement. So therefore, I would see it primarily as an ebook reader / video player / gaming machine. And because of the restrictions on ebook readers I am probably not in. BUT They might surprise me. What about the new iPhone - or is this going to be this years announcement and is there not gonna be a new iPhone this year? That might influence my decision. |

But Mr Co... Urrr Mr Eye, Who's to say that concept art with a Dock that includes a keyboard isn't a possibility. If it were I'd certainly consider this straight away.
But the iphone os is a big turn off as you're relying on apps to get onto the appstore to provide you with the stuff you need to get your work done... DOH! |

the thing is, those solutions already exist. Fair enough, they run windows or linux, but once you're running the reader software it doesn't really matter does it?

If what Jason said on twitter was true, it'd be worth it at the price point described. He's probably BSing though given that the Farmville stuff was just what they were joking about on this week's TWiT podcast.
This guy claims to have one http://twitter.com/MattPRD

I think iPhone should be in June as normal, rumours are that the only reason there's been so little about it this far is because of the resources working on the tablet and also references to the tablet in the new OS.
I'm like you *******, I think that its a brilliant idea and concept, but the fact I can't run other SL apps on it mean it might be too compromised at too high a price for me. But then I'm sure they've taken that in to consideration. A docking station of some sort is entirely possible and probable, along with some method of connecting peripherals - bluetooth? Would be interesting if you could use the video in on the new iMacs for example. That's maybe one step towards the iMac-style patent they filed where you slotted your tablet inside the iMac itself. That's exactly what I thought!!! I'd rather they release a peripherale that you charge up and can plug in to add an extra three hours to media life on the thing.
Just read something that windows 7 ain't that good for tablets... DOH!! Any news on hard disk size? I can see me giving in to this... ![]() Please let there be a CBZ/CBR app on the app store somewhere lol |

No live stream but endgadget and gizmondo (whatever they're called) will be live blogging the event...
I believe it's approx 6pm GMT but I'm out so won't have a clue what's going on

engadget and mac rumours will be doing live text feeds. The official video will be up in itunes a couple of hours after the event.
It will be about 6pm GMT when it starts. |

HDTV tuner and PVR? i would have thought this went against Apples stratergy to get people to pay for each episode via iTunes or season passes? Plus they would either have to omit this from other territories or build each tablet to spec for each country?

Keyboard and docking station? Now I'm vaguely interested. But storage space is still an issue. Would need to be able to access external USB drives

I reckon they'd create some sort of docking device/portable keyboard to house the thing for bloggers and the like.
You could take it on the train and assemble it like a transformer!!! Last edited by Space Duck; 27-01-2010 at 13:48. |

I'm tempted to run a sweepstake at work to see just how long after the tablet launches that our senior managers decide they must have one each for the business to function.
