Likewise was going to be my 2nd viewing this year but the babysitter pulled due to the weather so will have to wait - it's the missus who really wants to see it - she just loves the old vamp theme

It's not a great film but it is a decent one with a brain in its head. I saw that and Sherlock Holmes for a treat today and I much preferred Daybreakers. What Pentasa said is a pretty good summing-up.

Spoiler:
It was let down a bit by the ending which was just a succession of characters showing up in the nick of time to shoot (or bite) someone else!! Once you can accept but how many times did they do it?

Didn't quite live up to my high expectations but still a very enjoyable movie. Nice to see an original Vampire scenario & especially at the beginning, it feels fresh & inventive. Acting is fine throughout, Sam Neil being the best of the bunch for me.

The only small niggles I have with it is the movie's ambitions sometime exceed the budget & at times it feels more like a direct-to-dvd movie, looking a little cheap up on the big screen. Also the final act feels rushed & as pointed out by others, a few too many repetitive cliffhanger situations are resolved in quick succession.

I'd have been happy for the movie to be drawn out over several movies, allowing the interesting storyline to breathe, rather than rushing to a too swift finish-line.

Oh, forgot to mention, some nice gore scenes & I didn't spot where the trims were to get the 15 cert.

Thumbs down

Not that great IMO. Really cheap and predictable (so Hollywood) jump scenes. Most just put in for random shock value. I reckon this will eventually be a forgetable title, alongside such fantasy-action films as Ghost Tider, Ultraviolet, Aeon Flux, Elektra etc.

Pretty iffy storyline tbh, lazy marketting/journalism ("Matrix meets 28 Days Later" - didn't quite make me wanna watch this film, we reluctantly watched this as we had seen everything else)...

One or two nice gory bits to please those with a bloodlust but there are other films more satisfying that this.

I mean as far as horror-action films go, I much prefer Blade, Underworld etc.

A bit of a mixed bag. The concept and twist on the normal vampire story is very nice and it has some great ideas but somewhere in the production its gone all 'Hollywood' and turns into a pretty generic action flick that could have been more. The humour, while actually pretty okay, seems a bit misplaced at times. Certainly worth a watch on a Saturday evening with a mate and some popcorn though as it is entertaining. Could have been more IMHO.

Another 'meh' review from me I'm afraid. I liked the premise behind it and the cast was pretty good.
Unfortunately, it did turn into a very predictable action film with some pretty awful 'rescues' that seemed very rushed and too 'in the nick of time.'

It really did look it's budget too - in a bad way, which would have been fine if the story was worth it, but for me it wasn't.

Think i agree with most people, loved the idea liked the cast and didn't hate the film but there were a few things that bugged me, one being the vampires were a little rubbish, they were not strong (alright hard to kill) but easy to hurt. Not fast and judging by the way the women appeared in his house and then disappeared without him seeing her go, really easy to sneak up on.

I thought that was one of their better attempts at humour, nice role-reversal scene.

i guess but it does kind of ask the question if they can be hurt (and killed with extra effort) cannot go out in sunlight you can sneak up on them and they appear to have no extra strength or skills. how did they take over the humans?

The Vamps did have one vampy power, not appearing in mirrors, so technically they could tip-toe up behind you, while you brush your hair/teeth, and bite your neck.

ah but he didn't drink human blood so perhaps he is not that powerful? everyone else seemed to have a good blost lust and be pretty strong.

i found it funny, you are all superhuman but still have to go to work and worry about your house looking cool.

Did enjoy it; but I did get a fit of the giggles at the end with the scenes of mayhem. Didn't expect genius but they did try and address the issue of what happens when the resource you rely on starts to run out with increased rapidity.

I really enjoyed it. Not sure why every retard on the internet is comparing it with Twilight though? Other than vampires, they have nothing in common.

Even though it was cut, I was surprised as to what can pass for a 15 certificate. The level of violence did make me feel very uncomfortable watching it. 20 minutes in and I was saying to myself, "I actually voluntarily paid money to come and see this."

Without giving too much away, there is a horrible slowmotion scene towards the end (involving lots of soldiers), where I suddenly couldn't help but laugh at the sight of some unusual meat-like-looking-thing (I don't know, a brain maybe?) flying in slow-motion in the top left corner of the screen. Just looked so weird.

Yet more 'Meh' from me. It was alright - I wouldn't buy it on DVD/Blu I don't think.

It felt more like a series of game cut-scenes bundled together.

I found it pretty good entertainment. Premise was great and execution not that shabby. Gore at the end was a bit out of place IMHO.

Wonder what happened at the cabin?

Very disappointed by this. Love the genre, and it felt like a missed opportunity to me. There was so much potential, and there were quite a few nice bits, but the whole was a bit messy.

Really enjoyed this, a heady mix of Near Dark/Blade/Dawn Of The Dead.....good cast and well gory for a 15 as Mark Kermode mentioned in his review a few weeks ago.
