I found out a few days ago that when they headline Lollapalooza in a couple of weeks they have put in their contract that they are the only band playing during their slot so all the other stages are shutting early! I was not best thrilled.
Not planning to miss them entirely, but I have the option of a train that gets there at about 6.10 and another at 7.10, with !!! onstage at 7.15. Don't fancy waiting around for an hour if the support are not very good, but, depending on queues, I'll probably only miss 10 to 20 minutes with the second train. Still haven't decided, to be honest.

That's how it went on Friday. !!! are on until 7.45 and then there is a big wait. Would recommend anyone going in the standing section to have some water as I was dying of thirst by the time I came out!

I am not collecting my ticket till 7.30 so it looks like I will have to find a pub nearby because I am not standing round inside EC for an hour.

by the way I have to mention www.scarletmist.com I was able to pick up 2 tickets for face value on there, never used the site before but I would deffinately recommend it now.

Just got back from tonights show. It was brilliant. John Frusciante was excellent as was Flea. Keidis seemed a little off tonight.

Great show even if I did get beer chucked over me twice!!

I was at last nights show. We managed to get wristbands for the front area. The show was fantastic!

Went to last night's show too. Got to the front area (yay wristbands!). I thought the support act was weird and really crappy, but RHCP themselves were amazing. I got to crowd-surf Californication!! Still buzzing..

Looking forward to tonight so much, but not the heat - I'm struggling now just sitting at home when I've done nothing all day, so what I'll feel like by the end of the evening worries me. Please tell me it wasn't too bad at Earls Court last night!

How do you get wristbands for the front area, by the way, and is it really packed in there?

I don't mind the beer - its the bloody plastic bottles (coke/water/etc) flying around dishing out black eyes and headwounds that **** me off.

How do you get wristbands for the front area, by the way, and is it really packed in thereThe standing section is rectangular and divided into 2, with the front section taking up about 1/4 of it. You will only get a wristband if you get into the front section, and for that you will have to arrive early enough. I got there at 17.50 (doors at 6) and I got in with no problems.

It's not too hot unless you join the massive scrum at the front of the front bit. I riiiight at the front and it was absolutely boiling and sweaty. I didn't foresee it happening but I soon had to take my t shirt off, as did many others. If you want a wristband (unfortunately just a boring green thing that says "Event Wristband" - no effort there ) and not get too hot, just don't join the pack of sardines that is the front.

Thanks! I'll be getting there at about 6.10 (decided to get the earlier train) so I guess I've got a reasonable chance. No chance of me getting involved in the scrum, though. No-one wants to see me with my t shirt off .

Just back from Earls Court and had a great time, although my legs and back only just stood up to the task - I'm not as fit as I used to be! It wasn't too hot but we missed out on the wristbands and found it a bit difficult to see at times - and I'm 5ft 11. Hate to think what it's like for someone who's much shorter than me.

John and Flea were fantastic but there was definitely something off about Kiedis - he departed the stage long before the end of the encores and never returned. Other than that, a great night which reminded me what I've been missing over the last few years. I found the light and screen display absolutely stunning - things have certainly moved on a bit since 1999!

So what does everyone think about the album now that we've had some time to get familliar with all the tracks and its mammoth running time?

I was going to update this thread with my thoughts.

I think it's superb, and it's still growing on me. I think like BTW it requires a lot of time to truly appreciate it, but it's worth it. The 28 tracks does hamper it in that way to the casual listener, but there's only now a few tracks (If, C'Mon Girl and a couple of others. Stadium Arcadium is good with great vocals but lacking compared to previous title tracks) which aren't of a high standard to me, and that will be subjective. As some of the older fans were disappointed by BTW, maybe it was a reaction to include as many tracks of varying styles as possible so everyone would enjoy it.

Frusciante is king on this album (his guitar work and backing vocals), and I'm still finding great tracks on it (just discovered So Much I). Some tracks also sound like singles already- Storm in a Teacup, Snow. The standouts for me are:

Dani California
Snow
Charlie
Strip my Mind
Wet Sand
Tell Me Baby
So Much I
Storm in a Teacup
Turn it Again

The rest are of a consistently high standard as well IMO. I think there is an almost perfect short album in there, but I'm sure everyone would have different ideas on what would make it.

Agree with all you say Buck Rogers, I'm at the stage of finding it hard to get into, but I love some of those I can connect with.
Some of my standouts:

Dani California
Snow
Charlie
Hump de Bump (current fave)
Slow Cheetah
Tell Me Baby
She Looks To Me

A few sites are running with a story today saying that Frusciante has quit the band and has been replaced with John Klinghoffer.

John Frusciante has left Red Hot Chili Peppers, says source

Quote:
"Josh Klinghoffer has been playing with the group for a couple of months now," says the source. "Optimistically, the Peppers are trying to lock down a replacement for John, who has apparently quit.

"Mentally, John checked out a long time ago. He's interested in doing his own thing, his own albums - the whole big rock band machinery just doesn't appeal to him anymore."
Nothing official yet, don't know who this source is either, but i won't be surprised if it turns out to be true.

After the dull last album and the tour where they were going through the motions bored out of their heads i'm not surprised.

Flea seems more interested in other bands at the moment too.
