Okay, I'm nearly there now. I think.

Mission: HC set-up incl 28" w/s tv; DVD player; amp/receiver; speakers.

Budget: <£2k

Current preferences: Toshiba 28Z07B tv, Toshiba SD-220E m/r, Marantz SR5200, KEF 2005 sub/sat.

Still not too decided about the DVD player, although component video on the DVD sounds attractive in conjucntion with same on the Tosh telly; plus SR5200 is on the way out but can't find out spec of replacement yet. Was sorely tempted by Justin's Forums Members deal on SR7200 @ £470-odd but have now missed the boat on that it seems!

TV is pro-logic so I will be getting rear speakers I won't be using, but the cheaper Nicam Tosh (and most others at this price methinks) has no component input.

Priority is best picture and DVD and CD sound for the money. Any comments/ recommendations/ "don't be stupid, read this thread.." etc?

Ta :)

The tosh 220 is definitely worth it, just make sure you have one with the latest firmware. previous stock had seemless branching problems when playing certain disks

N, mailed you re the above:) ref SD220, could not honestly recomend a Tosh after all the problems we`ve had with 220s and some 210s last year, now taken all tosh of the website. Look at offerings from Pioneer, Sony, panasonic instead (I`ll get flamed, but so what - I won`t stake my rep. on a lemon that packs in after 6 months). Wouldn`t mind, tosh up to the 110/210 had impectable reliability....
