remote control knackered

before i dismantle my Sherwood amp's remote control to pretend i know what i'm looking for does anyone know what the usual problems are with remote controls. Basically, it won't work at all.

and yes it DOES have new batteries in it!!!

I've got a brand new Sherwood 6090RDS (although it works with other models too) remote that I would swap for a DVD if you want:)

Oh you might want to look for a dry solder on the battery posts?
