Right, going to do my best to keep this thread updated. There have been attempts before to keep these threads going and then everyone either a, doesn't play or b, plays once in a blue moon. This thread is for people who WANT to play Gears 3.
So, please drop in with your gamertag and I'll add them in this post. Whether this means you want to play campaign, some 5 on 5 hot sweaty action or a slice of orgiastic Beast/Horde, just so long as you want to play the game.

Gears of War 3 'Season Pass' dated, priced

Like every other "AAA" game this generation, Gears of War 3 will have an extensive post-release DLC schedule. However, in an effort to entice more purchases, Microsoft and Epic Games is taking a page from other games, such as Mortal Kombat and LA Noire, by offering a downloadable content "Season Pass"--which bundles all upcoming DLC at a significant discount.
The Gears of War 3 Season Pass will entitle gamers to receive the first four installments of DLC "over the course of the next year," with the first release planned for November this year. The Season Pass will be available on the day the game releases, September 20th, for 2400 Microsoft Points ($30). According to Microsoft, the Season Pass represents a 33 percent discount on the regular price of the four add-ons. (That means we can expect the regular price to be 3600 Microsoft Points, or $45.)
Gears 3 DLC will encompass both single and multiplayer offerings. As a bonus, all purchasers of the Season Pass will get the "exclusive Liquid Metal Weapon Set" for free. You can see the Lancer in its Terminator 2-inspired glory above.
Microsoft's Season Pass is easily the most pricey one introduced to date. $30 is quite a lot to pay for downloadable content--but the original price of $45 (which nears the full retail price of the game), is an even harder amount to swallow.

Aye, the top "tier" is for the hardcore players, for those whom Gears is a necessary part of their waking day.

Well, hopefully Gears 3 will be a whole new ball game and set us up with a level playing field for Gearhead and "noob" alike (though probably not).

BTW how do you define "hardcore"? As far as I could see there was only a couple in that list playing regularly in recent times :)
Actually, and nothing to do with the hardcore bit, but who ended up getting their wings and the Vet achievement? I got up to around Level 72 legit and then shoe shoe snuffled the rest in the 30x event back in April or May.

Well Deeshum and StuartGoat aren't constant players but are on it irregularly. The Gears 2 thread had a huge list of people on it that wanted to play and yet I can guarantee that I never played a good percentage of them.
I did the Annex grind on 3 occassions but 1 game dropped out before the XP could be claimed, hit level 100 on the 20th of November last year, I remember it was our usual game mode of Guardian and I also remember us destroying the opposing team on Stasis.....never have I had so many fake frag spawn kills.
BTW how do you define "hardcore"?

I played the first one an insane amount online.
Most often over Christmas into the early hours with several empty bottles of Speckled Hen in the bin behind me. :help:
Then part 2 came out and handed over a bottle of lube and a massive dildo to the host, so I played that about 12 times. :razz:
This one with its dedicated servers should see me back in the game, so add me to the list please.... :D

In the beta the Gnasher was still powerful, I was downed from a distance a few times though the Retro Lancer is a nice counter to it. I pretty much ran with the sawn-off and the retro for the 4 weeks that the beta ran and never missed the original loadout.

With a mere 10 days to go this thread is sadly quieter than I thought, I find it baffling that Dead Island has garnered more interest. Oh well.
I'm not chuffed by todays news about the weapon skins being a pay for option! A lot o fthe videos have shown some of these skins and I think it was universally thought that they would be progression unlocks not a dlc pack that is outside of the season pass too.

I've not really been following the unlockables. Do the skins have any effect on the guns other than cosmetic?
No just cosmetic but a bit of a pita to pay for them. Not that you have to of course. But tearing some one with a pink chain saw is obviously not to be missed :)
I'm seriously considering cancelling my pre-order and waiting for the inevitable GOTY with all maps + skins. I just ground out the 1k+DLC on GoW2 and don't think I have the willpower to chase all those Onyx medals.

Point to note. A Title Update 1 will go live on 19th sometime. This is to fix the gold weapons fiasco i.e. so only Veteran Gear gets it. If you connect to live before that update you might lose your gold/beta unlocks apparently.

Originally the gold gnasher was a play in week 1 of retail unlock. The Epic forums went ballistic over noobs getting this. The vet gear unlocked all still. So Epic have changed it so the iconic weapon (gnasher) is gold only for Vets. But by this time the game had gone gold so a TU is required. If you connect before apparently it can get screwed up maybe when the TU then kicks in ? :shrug:

Best thing to do is wait until the 20th, it was said somewhere else that you should make sure you're connected online before starting up the game, so beware autoloaders. I won't be getting this until the Tuesday regardless.

Basically they've taken my favourite new loadout and shagged it.

So unnecessary :( I loved that the Retor Lancer was a serious pain bringer. The original was always underpowered in my opinion. It's a game with a tried and tested cover system, if you don't want to get downed by lancer fire you can't go rushing around in open spaces for any amount of time. I'm assuming the reaction was that people got downed too quickly by it?

It looks fine to me. It is only hip fire as that was spray and no need to pray. I generally aimed with it and that looks unaltered. See http://youtu.be/xP2NfNTb_10 (can't embed but it is retail TDM footage) towards the end there is some retro aimed action and it looks ok.

Scores an 8 on Eurogamer. No surprises from the review, just sounds like another GoW game. Looking forward to it but not that excited....
All the reviews are very high scoring - 92/100 on Metacritic which is v. high. The campaign seems to have a decent story and wraps most of it up. You then get a lot of other game play types. Based on the beta I am looking forward to Gears 3 a lot. Just hope day 1 the servers and matchmaking is good as that will be a real downer if not.
