Does anyone remember this film? Is it coming out on DVD? I remember watching it at the cinema and wouldn't mind seeing it again

I have no news on it but it is a favourite of mine. Half way through watching Harry Potter, I was truck by the similarity of this with Young Sherlock, at the end I realised why, same director.
Maybe it'll get a bit of a revival whe Harry Potter comes out on DVD.

Wasn't this the first film ever to feature a CGI effect (i.e. The knight who climbs down from a stained glass window).
I enjoyed this film, particularly liked the way it explained Holmes having a pipe and deestalker (although I must admit that I can't remember how because its years since I've seen it).
I also liked that bit at the end - after the titles, but I won't say what in case people havent seen it!

I think I am right in saying that this bit was done by a then little known company called Pixar !!!

aye a film I enjoyed in my yoof. The guy who played Sherlock was in Shackleton recently.
you are infact wrong, it was ILM who did the Knight "Stainglass" effect in Young Sherlock.

Young Sherlock was actually directed by Barry Levinson, Harry Potter was directed by Chris Columbus. Chris Columbus only wrote Young Sherlock.

I remember being a little scared of it too - I'm sure there was something about people on fire and jumping out of windows?

Thanks for reminding me Chris Columbus wrote Young Sherlock not directed, I'm ashmed of myself for getting it wrong :D
I was a cinema usherette when it was released and I have a memory of asking a patron who had draped his feet all over the chair in front to move his feet. (my hitler manager insisted we did this) I approached him from behind his chair, put my hand on his shoulder, right during the opening sequence while the victorian bloke was being attacked by his meal and the patron nearly fell off his chair in fright. If your reading this thread now, I am sorry for scaring you like that.
Our cinema had it in 70mm no less, ahhh I remember it well.

I too found parts of the Harry Potter movie very reminiscent of Young Sherlock Holmes and The Temple of Fear (to quote the full title!).
The thing that no-one has spotted - or if they have, they haven't posted here yet - is that the music for both was done by John Williams, and is one of the best examples of a self-derivative score that I have ever seen.
Go back and watch the Harry Potter trailer, and when Harry and Hedwig are in the courtyard in the snow, tell me that the music doesn't remind you of when Holmes and Watson are at the icy dock near the end.
Oh, and while we are on the subject, yes I pooped my pants too when I watched this when I was 10. It was the way they embalmed those girl guides with boiling embalming fluid WHILE THEY WERE STILL ALIVE. Still gives me the heeby-jeebies... when I'm not finding it KINKY! (bwahahahaha!)

P.S. Only joking ;-)

Bruce Broughton wrote this Score. Intrada Records released it last year as a two disc Composer Promo, the copies dried up rather quickly and it commands atleast $150.00+ USD from it's original 45.00 price tag. Great Score btw.
I absolutely love this film. Bought it on VHS years ago and still watch it from time to time.
Watsons personal nightmare - the cream cakes strike back!

When ITV showed it,it was in the afternoon and it was badly cut. Most of the 1st death sequence was missing.
Would like to see this released.
Pity they didn't make any sequels.

My favourite bit was when Holmes answered the door to some gangsters looking to steal his (and his friends) money that was accumalated by selling "copious amounts of Ganja". At the sight of the gangsters gun he fainted and got his foot shot off .
