What are everybody's list of the scariest movie monsters (alien/human or otherwise) ever put onto our screens? Either from the way they looked, or from the way they killed people, or whatever.

TOP OF MY LIST:
The ALIEN movies aliens. Absolutely terrifying and at certain points in the movies look so real. Nasty ways of killing people too.

Not much else has scared me in comparison. I'll put some more when you lot put the ideas in my head!

To be honest the only monster that wigged me out was that weird whispy haired ghost from Poltergueist. It's only on screen for about a 30 seconds if that.

Oh and the ghost in the library in Ghostbusters. That creeped me out when i first saw it. :D

By far the scariest movie monster I've ever seen is the shark from Jaws.

Now tell me you've never felt nervous in water after watching the film!

The dead floating kid tapping on the window in Salem's Lot:(

Also the zombies in George A. Romero's Dead trilogy.

Speaking of Salems' Lot ..........

When I first saw this (must have been late 70s when it was first aired on the BBC in two parts) I was about 11 and I don't think I've ever been as scared as when I first saw "The Master" appear in that prison cell - slow build up, plenty of shadows [not Hank Marvin] and before you can say Jack Robinson, there's this big ugly, blue, hissing thing in close up.

Zoinks! As Shaggy would say.

Who turned into a really scary spider

Mine would probably be The Thing. Come to think of it that turns into a spider at one point. I thought John Doe in Seven was pretty scary as well (if you can class that as a monster).

The monster in Alien - but not when you see it at the end - no, that just ruins it - it's when you see it being tracked as a blip of light on the panel, closing in on the crew member. That was really scarey.

The best monsters are ones you don't see - ever.

Any movie containing puppets (except Puppet Master) that move by themselves.
Dolls and puppets kinda scare me
Then again any recent video from Michael Jackson is really scary.
He looked better in Thriller than he does today

I’m amazed no-one’s mentioned the terrifying killer carpet in The Creeping Terror, or the title characters in The Killer Shrews.

Then again, I’m easily amazed.

Well, I reckon that the head ghoul in Carnival of Souls is pretty creepy - I very nearly soiled myself as a kid after seeing him pop up.

Also, the whistling, hoarse breathing of the head witch/director from Suspiria - nasty....

I should think so. For a start, she's alive in that one. ;)

For me the scariest movie monster is probably either Pinhead (in the original, all the sequels devalued him immensley) or any ghost in and ghost film ever. They always do me something chronic.

Can't think of anything that is really scary these days, but when I was younger the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang scared me. The incredible Hulk used to scare me when he was changing into the Hulk.

I always remember my first real scare was from that troll in.... The Troll! Then shortly after Chucky, i had nightmares for weeks. Always kept thinking i saw shadows of feet running through the light seeping under my bedroom door!

Also think the Umpa Lumpas deserve a mention!

Mother Teresa in Don't Look Now gets my vote.

Although, Carrie's mother is pretty damned scary too - as is the fact that I find her incredibly sexually exciting.

The scariest monster I've ever seen, however, was some creature called Maggie in "The Downing Street Years". Surely such things can't really exist.

Boris Karloff's 1931 Frankenstein's monster !!!!

:D - yep, that is scary! ;)

Arnie (in T1) freaked me out when I was younger too.

Some others:

That weird monkey type creature at the end of Fire Walk With Me.

As mentioned, Penny Wise from IT.

When David turns into the werewolf in An American Werewolf In London and he looks at the camera. That always scares me, even now! I always think - he's coming after me next! :)

And, the kid in The Omen is a pretty scary character.

...yeah, when you see the guy in the suit! :)

Those little spikey Critters were quite scary!

Pennywise gets my vote too, (I hate Clowns).

Also Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers - They just keep coming back no matter what happened to them.

But the fim creatures that scared me the most were from that trashy old film Fright Night!! Gave me nightmares for weeks when I was a kid!!

Another vote for Salem's Lot. I'm not a great horror fan but this adaptation did it for me.

Mr. Barlow is slugging it out with Christopher Lee as the scariest vampire ever.

Oh, and I know it's not a movie, but that horrible plastic doll thing from Dr. Who And The Return (or was it Revenge?) Of The Autons gave me nightmares when I first saw it as a kid. I'm now 40 and it still gives me the creeps!

Pipes from Ghostwatch.

Regan when possessed in The Exorcist.

There's also a shot in The Beyond when MacColl and Warbeck drive away from the house and once they've gone the lights all start coming on and you see the shilouettes of shuffling zombies through the windows. This really creeped me out for soem unkown reason.

And surely Joe Pesci's characters in both Goodfellas and Casino must count as monsters? Scary.
