After success with the Beatles compilation CD (thread) (http://forums.thedigitalfix.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=597669) I did a while back (which is very much liked) I thought I'd have another go.

Am after happy family singalong songs for long car journeys, that won't drive the parents mad after the first listen ! So not Postman Pat theme, and the like.

This is what I've got so far, but there's not much variety and hardly any female vocalists. I'll happily drop one of the Madness and one of the Blues Bros tracks for something else, plus I'm not at all sure about the Sound of Music track or the Lenka one (was this a UK hit ?), but I'm struggling for female artists (and for recent songs !).

Mum & Dad are both ~40yo, and like REM/Smiths/Madness/S.Vega/Jewel/B.N.Ladies - to get repeated plays, and not get thrown out of the window, I'm thinking the CD will need to cater for their tastes a bit too !

Thanks. :)

Just need to be prepared for 'filtering' I had my kids asking for the judges song to realise it was 'hey hey we're the junkies'...

Try some of The Who - My generation, I can't explain, Pinball Wizzard, Baba O'Reily

Northern Soul - Judy Street's -What, Gloria Jones - Tainted Love (or Soft Cell)

Look at the Quadrophenia Sound track (none Who Stuff)- Do Ron Ron, Green Onions

James Brown?

Lightning Seeds, or Pulp for more indie - cherry pick some Billy Bragg especially Woody Gutherie Songs. Touch Sensitive by The Fall

Look at Ska compiliations kids seem to like that as suggested Madness, Specials, The Beat - look at Grosse Point Blank OST

I think most CDs with repeated listening can start to wear you down.
