View Full Version : How much is my amp worth? Sony VA333ES

I've just (kind of) upgraded my amplifier to any Onkyo 507, as I wanted the HDMI switching and new sound formats.

I want to sell my gold Sony VA333ES which is in good working order, but haven't a clue what to sell it for. There's none for sale or sold on ebay and there's no posts around on other forums. I think it was about £600 when I bought it a four or five years ago, but it is a lovely beast of an amp. Any ideas?

Just looked it was a 2003 model, so I've had it longer than I thought.

In some ways it's better than my new one, I'd love to be able squidge the two together!

Just looking through completed listings of Sony AV amps/receivers on ebay, most seem to have gone for between forty and sixty quid. You can get more for newer receivers (over £100) which support HDMI throughput, and supports the newer HD audio formats, but obviously something from seven years ago isn't going to have anything like that.

I bought a Sony AV receiver on ebay for about fifty quid a couple of years ago - but that was still a model you could buy new from Sony, and which was controlled by both a remote control and buttons on the front of the receiver. The amp you're talking about was discontinued three or four years ago and has no remote, so it is unlikely to fetch you as much as that. I'd aim for twenty to thirty quid, and hope you can sell it to somebody who had the same kit in the past which no longer works, so are looking to replace it like for like. You are unlikely to find somebody who wants a more modern piece of kit prepared to pay much at all for something which is now at least seven years old.

The lack of remote control and the gold colouring is also likely to put off conventional buyers - anything but black is normally a turn-off. But an enthusiast of that model might just be browsing when you list it.

Cheers, don't diss the gold :)

I reckon I'll try it on ebay with a starting price of £50 then and see how it goes, as although older, it is an ES model (cost about £600 new) and has a nice two way remote and I reckon someone out there will probably make use of the dual zone speaker setup and 7.1 (hopefully).

I didn't realise I'd got so attached!
