kingsley is stunning in it,agreed.
a really good film which suffers a little from what i can only describe as looking like a channel 4 film (in fact it is innit?). i just find you can always tell when a film has ch4s involvement, just the look of it, even the font the titles r done in etc...
the story got a little bit lost i think with the underwater break in but overall damn good.

agree with everything Davey says...
Kingsley just locks you in.. won't be dissapointed to see him nab oscar.. even though i'm an avid LOTR supporter!
only comment apart from story wandering a bit, it that at one or two points i felt the director watched Fight Club a bit too much?? :)

I saw this recently on video and was amazed that Kingsley could perform such crap. As British gangster films go downhill after 'Lock Stock', which is not as good as Brighton Rock, Get Carter, Villain and Long Good Friday, this has to be the worst. The overacting and comic violence are sorely missing Ric Mayell and Ade Edmondson. The constant swearing would be a good Monty Python ******** of some American gangster movies. The ending was stupid. As an o.t.t ******** of the various recent British gangster efforts i think the film could work but i fail to see anything to admire in it as a straight film. I do not object to swearing but you can only call someone an f----- c---- so many times without a responce before you look a prat.
I can usual see others peoples point of view on films even if i personally disliked the film but i watched this film with 4 other film fans and we laughed inbetween slagging it off! Now i get slagged off!:D
Why would you get slagged off? Your German! We don't take your reviews seriously!

Hello ... just me 2p
I watched Sexy Beast and overall I thought it was OK ... not great, oscar-worthy ... just an OK Channel Four movie. I certainly wouldn't watch it again. It isn't as good, original or enjoyable as say ... Shallow Grave, and although Ben Kingsley's performance was amusing and different there really wasn't an awful lot to commend the other performances or dialogue. The latter half wandered and they really could have done without Ian Lovejoy McShane's involvement.
I do, however, have to admit to laughing at the "front bottom" bit.
There you go. 2p spent. Keep the change. :)

Funnily enough I got this out from the video shop at the weekend coz I was bored on Saturday night so had nothing else to do. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.
Ben Kingsley was absolutely brilliant in his role as the psychotic, mildy schizophrenic gangster. His performance I really do hope will win him an Oscar. Kingsley makes this film, without his performance I don't think it would have worked at all.
This is not to say that it is perfect, the picture has many flaws, bad comic timing, lack of plot, lack of character development particularly from the female point of view, and as has been mentioned already the robbery scenes are a bit out of place and don't really contribute much to the film. I also found Ian McShane extremely annoying and some of the strong Londonm accents were at times incomprehensible.
Overall a good film if not a classic and one which I may buy in the future on the basis of Kingsley's perfomance alone.

No. I would bet you £100 that Jim Broadbent will win it for his performance in Iris. What do you say put your money where your mouth is? ;)

LOL...
It was a good film, Kingsley was brilliant...but somehow Ben Kingsley bossing Ray Winstone around didnt seem right :D I was hoping he would grow a pair of balls and stand up for himself making it a good action flick!
