Didn't the TV series suck even worse than Robocop 3? (if that was humanely possible?!)

It's actually only slightly worse than Robocop 3 and would be slightly better, if it wasn't for Robocop being played by a midget who walks like he's pooed himself...

Prime Directives isnt THE tv show that was aired ages ago, this is a set of TV Movies filmed in Canada and was aired last year in the USA.

In that case i might have to look out for the dvds, sounds as i they fit into the "so bad, it good" category

POOOO!! Just after I recieved the first 2 discs seperately... eBay here we come...
so has anybody bought this set yet ?
I went to buy it in Woolworths but they were sold out and i havent bothered getting it online yet as play dont have it in stcok yet
Just curious about quality of picture, sound etc
Bought it in Woolies on Monday for £16.99. I thought that even if it wasn't particularly good four feature length episodes for that price isn't too bad.
Overall I was pleasently suprised. The picture quality although not amazing is pretty good with good detail and clarity. The sound is good (although not having a DD 5.1 setup I can't evaluate the 5.1). No extras on the discs, just scene selection, but at least the menus are animated nicely unlike so many other releases from bigger companies.
As to the features themselves each of the four films is on a DVD-5 disc, so no layer change, each running about 90 mins long.
Rather than four separate stories, it is really a story arc of four parts. Not wanting to give anything away, IMHO the storyline while nowhere near as good as the original RoboCop (as you might expect) is possibly on par with RoboCop 2. However I much prefer it to the dire third film and the TV series. Anyone worryied that this is a rehash of the embarrasingly 'kiddified' TV series should have their minds put at ease. It isn't. It is actually suprisingly 'dark' for a TV movie containing a fair bit of violence and gore (and headbutts :D ). In terms of its position in the general RoboCop mythology its set about ten years after the first film and basically disregards/doesn't mention the events of the 2nd and 3rd. It tries to fit itself with the first film in terms of tone and storyline, with flashbacks to Murphy's police career before being transferred to Metro West (in the original RoboCop). It was nice to see an attempt to return to the original film's cynical and satirical style.
Page Fletcher does an ok RoboCop and looks the part, but is perhaps a bit old, looking a bit out of place in the flashbacks pre-RoboCop 1 sequences and IMHO not really nailing the RoboCop one-liners or matching Peter Weller's performance from the first two films.
Overall I would recommend it. While not as good as the original film, I found it entertaining and quite an achievment for a comparitively low-budget TV mini series. And definitely good value for money :) .

Its not anamorphic but its the only version to have 5.1 sound which makes it the best one to go for.
i got this boxset today when Woolworths got some back instock.
Watched the first part and it wasnt too bad at all. The only thing i dont like are the sound effects they use for Robo walking. I guess however that they were trying to do something different to make Robo sound older and suffering a bit from wear and tear.
Looking forward to watching the rest now - anyway for £16.99 im very happy!! :) :)

its a fold out boxset, a bit like the Robocop Trilogy box and not a cardboard box to hold the amarays.
I was waiting for this show to turn up on our television screens. I followed the shows progess on the official Prime Directives web site (which is now gone as the show has been and gone).
There were announcements about when it was being shown in america and canada. Lots of trailers to download which I did and I thought it looked quite good. They said that they had sold the show to companies all over the world, they had recorded commentaries for the DVD with making of stuff and then the shows were broadcast and then it went quiet, the site was never updated and then the site went offline.
No R1 DVDs ever appeared, then that French R2 appeared last year and now this cheap boxset recently.
Has anyone else heard anything about a R1 release, prehaps the show hasn't done well enough to warrant one?

to be honest from what i've heard the show did pretty badly and so you'll probably never see the special edition release Julian Grant and co wanted to release.
It's not currently available on region 1 at all and i dont think it will be anytime in the near future.
Well i watched the whole mini-series last night and i must say that i definitely enjoyed it. The widescreen picture seemed very good and the sound is 5.1 digital (i cant really tell you what the quality is like as i only have a 25" 4:3 tv and no surround sound kit)
It will of course never match up to classic original but it is so much better than Robocop 3 and the dire tv series. The storyline was quite dark and violent and i was quite surprised to see people getting cut in half with lasers etc. Robocop himself also bumped off quite a few people as well. :D :D
Overall, for the asking price of £16.99 i could recommend it quite easily - it's nothing truly outstanding but i enjoyed and found it to be very watchable.
Maybe one of our forum reviewers could do a review of the set, because im not really a good reviewer at all :D

I bought this today (the dippy 15 year old girl behind the counter at Woolies very nearly sold me the Robocop Trilogy by mistake, because the packaging looks so similar... if I hadn't pointed out the error I'd probably have walked away with the Trilogy for £16.99... but I already have it).
I've only seen the first of the 4 "episodes" so far. I thought it was quite bad. The acting was truly awful from every single actor. The direction was bad, the script clumsy. I'd put it slightly worse than Robocop 3, but slightly better than the TV series. I'll watch the rest of it and see if my opinion changes.
