We have 2 SkyHD boxes and a third old standard Sky digibox with only scart connections. The old box is in our bedroom and the wife will not allow me to go HD with that one too because of the added cost, hassle of cable replacement etc.

As things stand the standard Sky digibox is connected to a HD-ready TV by scart. Although the picture and sound quality are OK, I think the former could be better. I have heard about Scart to Complonent video converters like the one made by Lindy, costing around £60. If I interpose that device between the skybox and the TV will it:

1. Improve the image quality, especially smoothen the edges of the image even if it does not increase the resolution?

2. If I used the converter, will I need an additional L-R audio cable to carry sound (since component does only video)?

What format is the Sky box outputting over the scart cable, is it set to use composite (may be called video or possibly PAL in the Sky setup menu) or RGB? If it's using composite changing it to RGB would help a lot. If it's already using RGB then you probably wouldn't get much of an improvement by using a Component converter as I believe the two formats are considered to be fairly similar in quality and in fact the conversion process could maybe even make it worse.

Definitely RGB. I just double checked in case the wife had accidentally changed it.

You do realise component is a video standard, SCART is purely a means of connection?

If this is with a decent cable, you're all done.
