Ooooooo nice, theres also a Hollow Man: 2 Disc Superbit Deluxe Edition out the same day. Which sounds a bit good. It`s a pity I`m just after buying both Hollow Man and Starship Troopers though. But I`m sure I`ll get these when the time comes.
The original R1 release of this film remains one of the sharpest, most filmic transfers in my collection. Probably because it has virtually no Edge Enhancement.
It is to be hoped that the new SE retains the excellent transfer quality of the original
I was sooooo tempted to get this but may now wait, I haven't got the foggiest why i don't own it though, great film and apparently a good disc as well.
I am shocked - not one person has posted saying something like "Why not just get the cheap R4 copy for like £8?"
(And it doesn't count if you post the above now! :D)

Why not indeed ?.
Unless your in real need for a DTS soundtrack, there's no major insentive to justify the extra tenner its gonna cost ya.

Im a DVD collector too, that doesnt make me a mug though. ;)
It is afterall the main feature which is the main selling point of the disc.
How many times are you gonna watch that 46sec clip interview with the main actors leading make up artist anyway ?.;)
If we were talking about a barebones disc & upgrading to a new 2-disc collectors edition then I'd agree with you but thats not the case with this particular title.

Fair points but if ST does come with a DTS track and some credible new extras then I won't be able to resist it!

I suspect that a DTS soundtrack will not be present. Shame really - maybe they will get round to it when it is re-released again ina couple of years ...

Don't you find it a little suspicious that 2 other back catalogue CT titles are released that day as 2 disc Superbit Deluxe titles which come with DTS tracks?

we sure will.
Basil Poledouris has recorded a commentary track for the new edition, which probably means it will have an isolated score track.
That alone would make me buy it again.

Let's face it they should have released it With all the extra fetures first time round.
Nobody should buy this title again to show B.V that they cannot Keep releasing the same film over and over again.
What will happen next year? A three disk unrated never seen before directors cut with all new scencs newlly created for the DVD.:argue:

Well don't buy it then! BV aren't holding a gun to your head forcing you to upgrade  I have no problems with Studios releasing these new editions as I would much rather have the choice of upgrading my copy than not have the chance at all

I told it would be coming with a DTS track - taken from DVD File:
And on 5/28 comes new two-disc Superbit Deluxe versions of Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers and Hollow Man, as well as Mel Gibson in The Patriot. Stay tuned for specs...
Starship Troopers in DTS is the one and only reason I need to upgrade!!!!

Or you could just turn the bass & volume up on the present version.:p
I did wonder about the commentary/ies if this was to be a Superbit (deluxe) title, but from DVD Angle : Release News: There's a lot of cool news from Columbia/Tristar today. Full details aren't available yet on the following. A 2-disc version of Starship Troopers: Special Edition will be available on 05/28. The same day 2 more installments in the TV on DVD series will be released - Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles - The Homefront Campaign and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles - The Klendathu Campaign.
Also on 05/28, Columbia/Tristar will be introducing their first 2-disc Superbit DVD's. This enhanced series is dubbed Superbit Deluxe... Hollow Man: Superbit Deluxe and The Patriot: Superbit Deluxe will come with a price tag of $28.95 each. And yes, for those of you who are observant, this is the second Superbit release of The Patriot. The full details about the discs have not been disclosed (except for the usual Superbit specs - anamorphic widescreen, DD and DTS audio, etc). A glimmer of hope is on the main menu for Hollow Man, which has a selection entitled "Features." I'll be calling Columbia/Tristar today and will hopefully get some more details for you. Basically, it sounds as though Superbit Deluxe means absolutely zilch wrt dedicating all the bits to sound and picture.
Personally I'm delighted as I really like Verhoeven's commentaries, but it does seem to urinate on their fried potato based snacks when they've made a hoo ha about the picture and sound quality previously.
edited - to make it a bit easier to read.

Oh you cynic - my Sherwood amp is acknowleged for doing a better job with DTS tracks and that is fact so I for one see it as a genuine upgrade :D

Both Play & Splash were selling ST non-flipper R2 for around £8 a little while back, try there.
