View Full Version : K-pax
I love Kevin Spacey (as an actor lads!), he can make even the lamest of films watcheable; well apart from the last 2 minutes of Pay It Forward, but anyhoo.... With 'The Shipping News' released it made me wonder what became of 'K-PAX'?
It was released last October or November in the US, I think? Did I miss its release here? With my Odeon cinema that's more than possible or is it still due? Surely not straight to video!
Cheers.
The Internet Movie Database has a Uk Cinema release date of 8th April 2002. It got a good rating as well.
Can't wait for mine (on R1 the end of this month), and yes Kevin Spacey is a very fine actor.

Jacko.
The trailer was played just before A Beautifull Mind on Saturday. Never heard of it until then, and it looked quite good :)

...and don't forget the ever-wonderous Jeff Bridges; looking forward to this one.

So many films, so little time...
It's out in the cinemas around about 12 of April but you could just go for the R1 DVD release at the end of March. I loved the book and i've seen some good reviews for this film. So i'm gonna go for the DVD myself.

Hi all,
saw KPAX in October and enjoyed it, though not what I expected perhaps more for an American audience. Both Spacey and Bridges are as good as ever:rolleyes:
Thanks all. I think I'll be ordering the DVD then.

Yeah, I saw it at the London Film Festival last year and, as others have said, it was a great movie. No more than great though. :)

I too caught the trailer for K-Pax before Beautiful Mind. :)
Looks very good. Another in the tradition of Starman and Contact ethically speaking by the looks of it.
Ordered it on DVD. Spacey + Bridges = Buy! :)

Watched this the other night on Film4, thought it was very good and interesting to see they've just announced they've found a new earth like planet 600 light yrs away.

It's a great little film. Love the bit in the planetarium! You suddenly start thinking..."maybe..."
If you want it on DVD, you'll have to go outside the UK, as it's out of print here and secondhand copies are overprices )espescially considering the US edition is still in print and easily bought cheaply)
one of my favourite films - almost "magical" in places.
only thing that let it down for me was the description of the copulation process on k-pax. spacey's character said it was a painful affair (or something like that) but on earth at least, sex is pleasurable (for all species?) in order that we're "incentivised" to reproduce.

I agree that it has magical moments, especially the climax. It would have been much better if the main character had remained completely mysterious without any explanation for himself or his beliefs. It should have been left to the viewer's imagination.

Can't remember the film but I remember the books, its presumably to follow the sort of therapy line that Prot is just another one of his split personalities, who develops this persona as a sort of happy place.
I recommend the complete trilogy of books
