i really want to see this film because i've heard such great things about it but i'm not sure which version to get
can anyone suggest which is the best version to get
Here are a list of versions avaible
The Legend of drunken master R1: Has OAR and is Anamorphic but is cut and dubbed. Only version with jackie's voice though.
Thakral Drunken master 2 R0: Uncut but is cropped and picture quality is not as good as The Legend of drunken master. Has original dub and score with english subs. I think it is OOP but you can buy it from hkflix.com (http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.821/qx/details.htm).
Drunken master2 R3: Not sure about the picture but it has no eng subs.
So depends if you want a better picture or original score and the original ending.
i was in Big W and they had a film called legend of drunken master for £4.99
is it the same one?

nope thats a totally different film because:
1. Disney own the rights for over here as well and they havent released it yet.
2. It would never go that cheap as Disney are money grabbing fu...

I wasn't aware that legend of drunken master was released here but if Jackie chan is in it then it probably is.

are they ever going to release a r2 version of it?
to be honest im not sure who was in it but it was in a white box and looked really realy cheap and crappy

although dubbed region 1 does have jackies voice & the best picture quality ,the cut is only slight ,happens at the very end and deserved to be cut as it ruined the movie..

Was Jackie Chan on the front smashing through some thing.
If so it is the same version and could be a Region 1 import, although that is very cheap.

Basiclly the best are depending on your preference -
1. Drunken Master 2 R1 - Jackie Chans voice for his part of the Dub, Outstanding Anamorpic Uncropped - 2.35:1 Print. It has a very minor cut though.
It goes under the name The Legend of Drunken Master as the first was never released in America.
2. Drunken Master 2 Korean R3 - Has the original Music (the R1 dosn't) and is also Uncropped - 2.35:1 but this one is Non-Anmorphic. It is also not cut
It does have the original Cantonese soundtrack and a different English Dub (no JC this time) but no English Subs.
3. Drunken Master 2 Chinese R0 - Has the original Music (the R1 dosn't) and is also Cropped - 1.78:1 but this one is Non-Anmorphic. It is also not cut.
It does have the original Cantonese soundtrack and English Subs but remember the Cantonese soundtrack doens't have JC's voice and to be technical for a minute is also a dub (all HK films were at that time).
Personally I would go for the R1 although it is a dub only, is the winner IMO because of having JC's voice (no other version does) and an outstanding Anamorphic Uncropped print.

as a cantonese speaker, I've got the r3. picture qualities pretty shoddy, but I'd rather have the ost than a dub anyday.:p
i for one will not pay di$ney my hard earned cash if they can't do the right thing.
support the the web alliance against disney's butchering of Hong Kong Films (http://www.hkfilm.net/disney/) . In this day and age, I thought DVD was to provide the full experience... I guess di$ney have other ideas.
ill be there on saturday so i'll get a copy, as far as i can remember its someone kicking something, and the back cover is a bloke kicking a popd and the same gu fighting a dude with a big beard

is the region 1 dub as good as drunken master 1's dub, i thought the dub voices in the first drunken master was really good and suited all the characters?
I'll just add that I have the R1 version of this stunning movie, and although I don't like dubs, this one is bearable, actually pretty good, and Jackie sounding drunk is hilarious. I haven't seen the other versions but as they are cropped, I can't imagine them having any sway over the R1 release.

looks like its R1 for me, is play the cheapest place to get it from?
That is where I got my copy from. A bit steep, but what the hell.
Picture is good quality too.
