Yammy 620rds remote problem

It's not the batteries! or what way I turn the dial!
But the remote will only work when I put it up to the front display!
Theres no obstruction either and the panel is clean.
It doesn't happen all the time,but most of the time now.
I could go away and have switched off the machine and come back later,turn it on and the remote would work fine.
Next time it would have to be put up to the front panel to work.
Whats wrong?

Are the battery contacts in the remote clean? Does it work OK if you spin the batteries before pressing a button? I had a weird problem a few years back with Boots batteries in a remote - the expiry date was printed on the base (-Ve end) of the battery. Would you believe the ink was acting as an insulator - I had to use fine emery to clean the batteries before they'd work properly!

I don't know what the problem is.
I have a Bad feeling about it.
The batteries are fine as the remote is controling the tv from the other end of the room no problem.
But 4 times out of 5, I have to go right up to the amp for it to work that, and theres definitely no obstruction in the way :(
