My brothers interested in Spawn stuff. He doesn't own any of the dvds at the moment, but his birthday is coming up soon and I need to know some stuff about it.
I've seen the First live action film, not the directors cut though.
I've also caught a few episodes of the animated series on Bravo.
Are there any todd mcfarlane buff's out there who can help me out with a chronology of all the spawn dvds which are available.
You can get some of the 1st season of the animated series on
R2 dvd now, 1-3, and 4-6 as seperate titles (both 9.99 at Play)
and also the Directors cut of the (1st) film.
On R1, the other two films are available 2 & 3 (around £16 each).
And I've seen the collectors box set of all three seasons of the animated series available aswell on R1 (for around £25 - £30)
Is there anything i'm missing? what is the best?
Jamin
i would say the best thing to get would be the animated boxset which contains all of the Spawn animated series.
It's definitely better than the film, which is considered pretty poor (though i quite like it) and is very dark.
Or if your brother is a complete Spawn nut just buy him both the Directors Cut film and the animated boxset :)
I would recommend ignoring the R2 disks unless you get them dirt cheap - the R1 boxset is much nicer and tidy

thanks
are the animated films (R1) actaully the edits of the series, realeased as seperate seasons?
e.g. Spawn 3: Ultimate battle = season 3?
and can you recommend a reliable place to purchase the animated box set?

You can probably get the Directors cut of the Spawn movie for dirt cheap on VHS this is the only reason you should buy it, my brother was a Spawn fan and even he thought it was terrible.
Come to think of it we still have an old copy of it lying around in the bowels of my VHS collection somewhere.
The animated series is your best bet, although I also found that to be god awful ( then im not the biggest spawn fan ) .
On a related note there are still plans for a Spawn 2 which will be more gritty and dark in tone.
