Android t-mobile uk phone using in usa

Hi folks,

Currently in USA and trying to get my wife's otherwise excellent HTC Wildfire to SMS while roaming. It's picked up the American t-mobile network and she can make/receive calls. She can receive txts but not send them.

I've tried the obvious of changing the number to include +44 or the int dial code but no joy

Got data roaming turned off and set it on 2g only (but have tried it on 3G). Any advice? Could turn on data roaming for 5 to see if it picks up the right settings but a bit worrie about the cost...

A quick Google suggests that you need the exit code for the US which is 011, so;

07736 123456 would be 011447736 123456

No, that doesn't work... Can't text a uk or USA number using either method. I swear it wants me to turn on data roaming to get the settings. I swear networks used to send you a welcome txt when roaming with the details

They did (send the "welcome" message) last time I was abroad - but that was only Spain :)
