View Full Version : What Phone? - Not an Iphone 4 but same price range?
Which one?
Don't like apple, and won't go iphone out of principle. Anyone who releases a phone and tells you to hold it a certain way, is a company selling a look rather than a functional device.
So I have a choice of phones up there in that price / monthly plan range for vodafone . What do I go for.
Things important to me in order of preference:
Makes calls
Sends texts (easy to type)
Email push (or blackberry client if applicable)
Storage
Battery Life
Plays music
Has good camera
If it has linux on it, even better.
Someone set a sealed Iphone 4 on my desk but I gave it to someone else, and will take their new phone that is due instead.
dammit, wrong forum, didn't know we had a new mobile forum.
can someone move please?

Sony Ericsson W995 ?
I wouldn't recommend and HTC Desire as the battery life is poor, maybe the HTC Wildfire has better battery life though (as it has a smaller screen).

Maybe I should move battery life down the list. It is a work phone, so apps is important. I may want to develop some, or test some work related apps on it. Still can't be an iphone .

HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S are probably top of the list right now.
Nokia E71 or E72.
Excellent battery life. Push email via Nokia Messaging. Querty keyboard and microSD storage.
The E72 has a 5mp camera too.

Palm Pre plus - makes keeping up with multiple email accounts dead easy. Plenty storage for music and vids. Good apps. Linux-based software

A few iphone4 alternatives here: http://www.mobilefoneonline.com/2010/06/21/possible-alternatives-of-apple-iphone-4/
Personally (not biased at all ;) ) I'd recommend the Galaxy S. :D
ok, update to this, I got the HTC Desire yesterday afternoon, mainly because it was already ordered in, and it was there, and being impatient I grabbed it so it could be mine.
Let the fun begin. Already had a go at rooting it, to get froyo 2.2 on it, but no luck.

Good choice, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
I would hold off from rooting and seeking froyo for the moment, its only just been finalized. Cyanogen is working on froyo for the desire so there will probably be a few options in the coming weeks. He was tweeting last night that froyo works great on the g1.
Good choice yes, but you wanted battery life so I ruled it out :D
All smart phones suck when it comes to using up the juice.

N97 is reasonably good with it's 1500mh battery. Better than most.
