You can see the thought process now.....

"7 heroes??? That's too many for American filmgoers to remember, you need 2, people like duos, so we'll change that. Now, what in the blue hell are Samurai? No-one knows what samurai are, let alone even likes them!! American audiances like cops, with guns and car chases.... but the twist is the cops hate each other but have to work together, it's brilliant, we'll have to change the name....... How about Tango & Cash II - Cops In The City?"

I'm sure if you asked Tim Burton he'd tell you, they weren't remakes, they were re-imaginings.

Oh, and you seem to have missed Battle Beyond the Stars and Last Man Standing off your list for some unknown reason. ;)

On another related point, Tim Burton is actually remaking German expressionist 1920 horror The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

I allso missed off the 2 American remakes of Rashomon as well. :)

( for the record Mr Stanton thinks Battle beyond the stars is a top b-movie re-imagining. )

Doesn't A Bugs Life count too? Ah well, it's a timeless story anyway.
