Sky1 is to broadcast the finale of Lost at 5am on Monday 24 May, as a simulcast with ABC's broadcast on the US west coast.
The unprecedented scheduling move aims to prevent illegal internet downloads of the finale
Thats awesome and all... but they do know that most of the guys who capture and upload this stuff actually live on the EAST COAST...
These guys are highly competitive with each other, and have the whole process down to a fine art, they start encoding episodes while its airing, and then assemble and upload within minutes of the show ending...
When I was living in California, it was possible to download the HDTV versions of shows and watch them before they where aired locally.. I know a lot of geeks who did just that...
Still 5/10 for effort and creating hype.

Conveniently I've got Monday and Tuesday off. I do have other stuff to do, but I may well end up making an arse shaped dent in the sofa while watching Lost + 24 :)

You've got to give them a break over an hour or two here and there. That's not a problem. Really all they had to do was do it Monday evening. Nice they went the extra mile and put it on live.

Oh yeah, as I say, its a good effort, but trying to sell it as 'beating the internet pirates'.... its not going to at all
It is actually funny that the pirates are almost better at it than the professionals!
Seriously considering doing this.
Its going to be quite hard to avoid spoilers on the Monday I think - if it starts at 5am that means it will finish at 7am?

Very good idea, I was terrified of spending next week being spoiled. Gonna make a night of it with friends and family, methinks.
This is great news, presumably Sky will just make it PIN protected in order to avoid making any cuts.
Im recording it, getting up at 6am and then I should be able to watch it and fast forward the ads and finish it before I have to leave for work :D

I doubt it'll matter as no doubt they'll be a 101 things that won't be resolved and we'll all be left wondering what the point of it all was.....bit like Episode III

It is, if they did it. 5am is about 3hrs after the start and 30min after it ends! If they showed it at 2am they'd have more viewers than 5am.

7.30am. It's 2 and half hours.
It is, if they did it. 5am is about 3hrs after the start and 30min after it ends! If they showed it at 2am they'd have more viewers than 5am. :doh:I'm guessing it's so it complies with something about it not airing anywhere else before it's aired in full in the US, by using the west coast feed they honour this.
I've no idea on the veracity of this but I expect that's what it is and would make perfect sense.
If they can't air it simultaneously, don't call it a simulcast. Can't see why they wouldn't let it air simultaneously. They could air it simultaneously on the west cost if they wanted. I guess it is simultaneous with the west cost broadcast, though
Well done Sky:thumbs:
All adds to making the last episode of LOST as a bigger event and a first from British TV.
I know that they have a lot of knockers out there but can you imagine any other UK broadcaster showing its top rated import show at a time that is generally regarded as the grave yard shift of TV?
OK you could argue that they are 'only' doing it to get the "pirate viewers", but they could have just shown it at a peak time Monday night and would get a lot more viewers than they would at this time. I now almost forgive them for showing the Pacific on Sky Movies where I cant watch it, almost:p
EDIT - only donwside is that they are still only showing Lost: The Final Journey at 7pm on Friday 28th. Would be good if they could slip this in before they show the final at 5AM Monday.
The finale will be repeated on Tuesday, May 25 at 9pm. Meanwhile. The finale will air again at 9pm, followed by Sky1 specials The End Is Nigh and Top 10 Greatest Scenes.

they have end is nigh and top 10 around the 5am showing as well.
its very good of sky, though honestly a Monday evening showing would have deterred pretty much everyone from downloading bar a very tiny handful.
Its really not like the Sun will splash across its front page whats going on, so the only place you would need to avoid is say digital spy, maybe bbc news. its easy enough to spoil the result of say the US apprentice - done to me the year Piers Won as it was in the metro with a pic - but there is probably not much they can say in one sentence that can sum up the show.
though if its "it was all a dream", then i'd be mad anyway :D
But I think its Lost: The Final Journey that is a re-cap of important/relevant events from the series so would be nice to get a quick up to speed. Still its only a slight niggle.
I doubt I will watch at 5AM as I have to be at work by 7AM so Ill wait to I get home that night, but wont be doing any web browsing that day and the radio will be off at work (perks of being the manager - radio control  ), and will avoid all free papers on the way home and have my head phones firmly in my ears so as to not over hear anything:nuts:
In a very, very, sad TV :dork: way Im going to miss some of these TV characters once its all over, and unlike Friends and X-Files these are not TV episodes that you can really did in and out of for a quick fix of them.
Still I really hope there is a big all singing and all dancing Blu-Ray set of the whole show out before Xmas for me to relive the whole experience from the start.
Can't wait for this.
Just a thought tho, will they get away with showing this uncut? When they reapeat Lost during the day they do cut some parts out.

Any know if it's going to be shown on skyplayer? I use sky through the 360 only so don't want to get up at 5am for nothing. The latest episode does appear on the on demand section so assuming it's shown.

Do you want to watch it live or on demand ? Some things live on Sky are not available on the Sky Player live streams (like the Simpsons).

Even if I was gonna do this, I'd be watching it on Monday evening. Not worth a 5am start for it.

Totally agree - I find it amazing that Sky are getting grief for simulcasting with the wrong coast of the US. And, as mentioned above, that will be due to them not being able to air it before any of the US timezones. Several other countries are doing the same thing so I presume that ABC offered it as an option but only gave that timeslot.
It seems a bit much to complain that we aren't seeing it before viewers in Hollywood.
And as for the pirates being able to 'beat' them. Is anyone really going to get up even earlier and sort out downloads etc just in order to be able see this an hour earlier than anyone else? (And then not be able to even gloat about it).
EDIT - I'm sure there are some people out there that will, but there's only so much Sky can do.

Unfortunately there's no point us trying to watch this at 5am. The baby wakes at 6 & the 4 year old about half an hour later. I'll just record it & watch it in peace after 8 that evening.

Prefer to watch TV at night, but feel this is the only way I can guarantee I will watch it without being spoiled so an early morning for me on Monday!
Kudos for ABC for supplying this. I'm sure it's $ motivated and not out of the kindness of their hearts, but still. And fair play to Sky for sticking it on - they could have put it on Sky Movies a'la The Pacific (is anybody watching that?)
It's helped to create more of an event and there are so few of those on TV these days.

It is also being shown at the American time in other countries as well I think.

Given that it defeats the purpose, is it really a surprise? They should air it simultaneously on the west coast too, they're liable to read the same spoilers we are, maybe not so much. With things like twitter, spoilers are even harder to avoid, we're lucky in that not many brits are going to be tweeting at 5am

Is it really that difficult to not be on the internet or twitter for a few hours? Why on Earth would some one deliberately go hunting around and then be annoyed that they saw something? Even if you come here you only have one thread to avoid. It's not that difficult.
I'm not talking about deliberately looking for it, clearly that would be the persons fault. AFAIK with twitter (I don't use it) it will send you the tweets of people you're following automatically like an email/txt and a lot of people will get it on their phones.
Like trying to avoid the result of a footy match, it'll be pretty impossible to avoid Lost spoilers next week.
Simultaneous screenings of the double episode will also be held in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Turkey and Canada
Given that most of those countries will require their own dubbed version I am presuming that this won't actually be a true 'simulcast' with ABC? But they will probably be providing multiple feeds direct from the US since releasing tapes in advance would surely be too risky?
That would all point to ABC controlling when 'we' can see it.

Sorry - you misunderstood my (obviously badly made!) point. I was just saying that those numpties blaming Sky for not showing it in line with the initial US showing are barking up the wrong tree.
ABC have rightfully kept control over who sees it 'first'. But they are doing a damn fine job of getting it to everyone asap.

Nice that Sky screwed up the first minute or so :(
Temporary fault :nono:
God, I hate watching adverts, I miss Sky+.
I'm really fudged right now -i just watched the first HOUR of the Finale on my xbox360 skyplayer only for "this programme is not available on skyplayer screen pop up !!!! WTF !!!!
hate you SKY just messed up something I've waited six years to watch !!
i'm gonna have to resort to other sources to get to watch it
why oh why even bother showing the first half at all ???!!!
Don't know how I'm going to go to work after this - I'm in bits!
I wonder if these constant messages that keep popping up on screen saying we are watching this live from the US are in the places where an ad break would be in America.
If it is I can't even imagine how they can sit through a single episode of anything with that amount of breaks.
well it looks like my sky box has ****** up and isnt recording it :( Its got the little show that was on before recorded but not the main one. Bugger :(

I suspected that the number, and timing, of ads may be a problem with this 'simalcast'. Remember that one 'hour' of US tv is actually only about 40 minutes of actual tv.
Still, at least they didn't wheel out Claudia Winkelman to pad out the time like they do with the Oscars.
"Aquireing" now.

How was the beginning screwed up on Sky 1 and was it the same on the HD channel? I am recording it to watch tomorrow night when the GF gets back from her course.
Cant wait!!!
Awesome end. Off to work. :D
It was only a few seconds - technical hitch. Small problem with dubbing for a while after the first break too, but nothing major. Doesn't spoil anything.
Great end to a great show. But I feel sort of sad.

repeated tonight.
they sky HD showing was fine, 10 secs at the beginning when there was no pic and some voice stuttering. I assume the LIVE FROM US signs were where the adverts would have been, though of course the US would have had ad breaks far longer than that.
