It's getting close to the ESC again. :) Semi finals are on BBC 3 on 25th and 27th May, and the final is on 29th May on BBC 1 / HD.

We got the CD through yesterday and have only listened to it once. A couple of tracks sounded interesting (can't remember which ones yet, will have to listen again later!)

Anyone else got the CD yet?

Just thought I'd give this a bump as the first semi final is on BBC Three tonight at 8pm.

Having listened to the cds a number of times now, I think my fave this year is Germany's entry. Not that they'll win of course!

Her accent on this song is weird though! It's like she's trying to sound mockney but not really getting it right. Got played to death on MTV and Viva when I was in Germany.

Cute as hell though!! :n0rty:

I'm not sure what it is, but I always love watching Eurovision. It's one of those TV events I seem to look forward too.

OK, thanks, that's not tooooo bad, as Eurovision goes, could do with the energy notching up a level or two. We won't win of course anyway though, until Europe forgives us for Tony Blair :(

What's the odd's on the UK getting zero points?

That songs blander than a curry recipe in the daily Mail.

Oh dear.

Perhaps we'd better save the money it's gonna cost and just tell him to stay at home.

Not that it's terrible in an out of tune kinda way, just that it's dreary in a I'll put the kettle on whilst he's singing kinda way :(

Eurovision week starts.Semi final 1 on BBC3. Moldova 1st one, is far better than the UK.Not a fan at all of ours this year.Good to see Denise Van Outen making an appearance

Pete Waterman on Radio 5 on Monday claiming its a good pop song.Pete you have lost your ear,you stick to train spotting.Justin Lee Collins entry is far better than the UK.We had a chance with that.

25-05-2010, 19:33
Why do we still make an effort? We could send Elton John and we'd still come in the bottom half. We should just enter absurd metal bands (like Norway's Lordi... they won for goodness sake) - I think Cradle of Filth would do just fine :D

I cant tell you how much I dislike Sarah Cawood and the commentary from those 2.I dont hate anything but she's coming about as close as anything.Im muting in between the songs and looking away when she's on screen. There's millions of better looking women in the UK and we send "Chav Scum"

Still not heard anything better than Moldova yet?

Thankfully another upbeat entry-Albania

This is what Eurovision is all about.

Q
25-05-2010, 20:16
The 4 I liked,

Moldova,Albania,Greece and Iceland.

What happens if Iceland and Greece get through and win as they are already Bankrupt :-) No chance of us winning it thankfully:D

Equal 1st:Albania/Moldova.
3rd:Iceland
4th:Greece.

Totally amazed (and overjoyed) that Russia got through. The doo-wop dirge genre is usually under-represented at Eurovision. Alas, come the final I doubt the voting public will appreciate its demented genius.

I'm disappointed that Latvia didn't get through. Only Mister God knows why.

Did anyone else find the Polish (I think) song a bit disturbing? Specifically the bit where he had the woman in a headlock whilst the other two women ripped her top off. I mean it's sweet that people are still homaging Bucks Fizz after all these years, but couldn't they keep it a bit less rapey?

Q
27-05-2010, 19:03
Semi-final 2 just started on BBC3.I wonder what tonight will bring.Sarah whats her name hasnt got any prettier over last 2 days and the mute comes in helpful.

KennyVader
27-05-2010, 19:26
The official Eurovision site has a backstage feed that I thought would be interesting but it needs some godawful "Octoshape" plugin which just doesn't seem to work for more than about 10 seconds at a time, then it needs restarting. You would think a Broadcasting organisation would have a clue about 'net streaming as well as conventional transmitter broadcasting by now, but apparently not. FFS, should just be using justin.tv or livestream.tv or one of the many similar sites that just use flash. Or just talk to the BBC bods to host it for them.

Muppets.

Watched the 2nd bit of the Justin Lee Collins Doc this evening before the 2nd Semi final.Im really surprised he didnt at least get into the last 5 of the Ireland final.Having heard the UK entry the other day and having heard JLC song 3 times now then I think its far better than the UK entry.

He's got a really good voice.

I like the fairground organ prop that the Dutch just had on stage. The giant apricot or whatever it was that an earlier one had was quite something too. Definitely the Night of Gimmicks so far! The Swedish lot having given everyone in the place red glowsticks must have cost an absolute packet!

Q
27-05-2010, 19:46
Romanian is best song this evening, its made me take notice song wise and the woman on the piano all in Black PVC is

Possible Winner me thinks for Romania

Bulgaria Female dancers-very nice and good song.My no 2 behind Romania

All the good looking woman in Ireland then you could have thought they could have sent a looker.Personally I preferred the chicken :-) If the song isnt that good then at least you have something to look at for 3 mins.

Jeez, what did Sweden do to **** off Europe's voters? How could she not go through? Shame as along with the Finnish entry that failed the other night, the Swedish girl was lovely.

Massive shame/surprise about the Netherlands' kooky entry not going through either.

At least those nutjobs in the sparkly shorts didn't make it.

I haven't seen hardly any songs to be honest. I mean, who the hell is that guy singing for us? He's like Andy Samberg crossed with some butlins cabaret performer...bottom 5 for sure. However, I think the French song has a pretty good chance - it has a real world cup feeling to it.
About how bland the songs are... it seems people are fed up with the campness of Eurovision and are now going for some power ballads instead. Strange competition this as a few years back we had this:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eX_rNEPIgc8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eX_rNEPIgc8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

It's what made the Eurovision so damn fun!

However, I think the French song has a pretty good chance - it has a real world cup feeling to it.

Isn't that a case of penny-pinching and commissioning one song to do two jobs? Eurovision entry and World Cup coverage theme. Truly this is the austerity Eurovsion. The presentation is much less lavish than Russia's effort last year. And presumably poor old Latvia had to use an internet translation site to come up with their English lyrics.

I’ve asked my uncle Joe
But he can't speak
Why does the wind still blow?
And blood still leak?
So many questions now
With no reply
What for do people live until they die?
What for are we living?
What for are we crying?
What for are we dying?
Only Mr. God knows why
What for are we living?
What for are we dreaming?
What for are we loosing?
Only Mr. God knows why

(But) His phone today is out of range

EDIT: Don't worry, just seen it. It's awful. Looks good though. :n0rty:

Shame about the Dutch entry, hopefully there's a clip on Youtube as it sounds like a fun performance.

EDIT: Just seen that as well. Very 70s! Not fun, but at least she sang in here native language (which seems so much lacking these days).

Will be watching on Sunday whilst getting increasingly merry, as always.

Agree the JLC entry for Ireland was by the best I've heard and they would have gone quite far with it I would have said just on the novelty/press angle alone.

The UK entry is so dull it will do well to scrape into double figures.

Totally agree. I thought the first semi-final was really good though. Was really pleased that Russia got through, although not happy that Estonia didn't.

I'll be voting for Germany and Russia tomorrow night. There are a decent number of songs in the final, so should be a good one. Shame one of the best songs of the competition didn't get through.

Also the Sing along Lyrics on the red Button take up half the page and block what is below them,so not good for looking at revealing dresses so gone back to the BBC1 normal coverage.I wasnt going to sing a long any way.

I think the reason they've got that massive stupid block-out-everything background on the red button lyrics is because when the phone numbers come up on the main picture, they also block up half of it

Special mention to Armenia for bringing apricots to my attention, and Ukraine for making me ponder just how much skin one should show nowdays.
