View Full Version : Cables !!! 4 sonic fury digital out
Hi , i today have put my order in for the marantz 5200, just b4 the price hike, currently im running dvd off my pc, and i have a 5.1 sonic fury sound card, this has coax digital out, just wondering what sort of cable is required? the output from the sound card is a 3.5 mm jack, which has pcm and coax digital on the same line, just wondering how to connect it up, plus i wanna get my games in 5.1 aswell.
thanks in advance
I've got a SB live with coax out. I use this into some Digital speakers. Basically there is a MONO 3.5mm jack to single phono socket. From this there is a phono to phono lead to the speakers. I have also tried this linked to my amp and it works, with 5.1 in DVD's (DDigital or DTS lights up)
As for 5.1 in games..... all that the SBlive can do is output Pro logic encoded stereo over the digital, as it can not encode 5.1. However maybe your card is able to do this (like the SBlive 5.1)
Having thought that through.... I don't think any card can encode 5.1 thus anything other than DVD will be output in Digital Stereo, possible Pro logic encoded.
The sonic fury should have a3d which means that with the latest drivers (a3d v3) you can output something close to 5.1 through A3D compat games. You need a connection as Boycee says, basically you just need to convert the 3.5mm jack (probably mono) to a normal phono lead for connection to the amps coax in. Maplin will have one, or a plug that has male 3.5 and female phono. Then just use the standard phono-phono between.
Yeah, i wouldn't mind one of these cable have just bought some creative speakers, ith a coxial input on them and i have the sonic fury sound card.
Any idea where the cheapest place for this cable would be
I'm fairly certain the cable you require is just a standard single stereo 3.5mm jack to twin stereo phonos (in fact, there is one supplied with the retail Sonic Fury at least). I think all you need to do is set the VersaJack to output a digital stream and connect either left or right phono (can't remember which) to your amp's co-ax input.

Yeah, I read somewhere that the Creatives can be connected similarly with the red phono being the active one.
