I've been into DVDs for around 3 years now. (That long !) and have a pretty big collection now. (145 disks ex discs in box sets, so I'd say around 180ish disks)

But how often do you watch your films though ?

Some films like Snatch, American Pie, Jay and Silent Bob have had multiple viewings, but others have only been watched once, and kept for some reason.

I like the film, so do not want to sell it, but will nodoubt never watch it again.

Do not just say its me who does this?!

Got over 200, never sold one, apart from...

Goldeneye when I got the Special Editions, and Resevoir Dogs, when I got the box set (from HMV @ same price as I sold original) and some Armaggedon 2 Discs (already had Criterion for meself) which I got cheap at Safeway.

Never bought a DVD for myself and sold it on, without it being a 'double'.

sounds like collecting Premier League stickers...:p

Out of my 100 or so titles/boxsets, I have watched quite a few more than once. All the ones I keep, I know that I would want to watch again.

If I see something once and don't like it (or know that I won't want to watch it again, apart from maybe on the telly) then I trade or sell it on.

Out of the 150 I own I have probably watched around 10 more than once.

Here's another question - how many of your titles have you not got around to watching yet?

I used to have quite a few, but now probably have it down to only about 10 or so titles.

About 450 of the 500 I've got have never been viewed as yet. However, I've already seen a fair slice of those movies on different formats in the past, so am in no rush to view them over newer movies. With the Bond SE's, I've watched all the main documentaries, but only watched Dr No all the way through.

I'll get round to them all eventually as with the unlistened to CD's and books!

Around 20 of mine.

It was around 50, but then I decided to only bring ones I hadn't seen to uni this term.

I keep buying more though, even though I ain't watched the whole of Brazil CC yet...

The only thing that worries me about not watching stuff relatively soon after buying (i.e. within a few months) is that if there is anything wrong with the disc - what can you do?

Admittedly this worry is not big enough to make me watch everything quickly.

I also buy DVDs of films I like and already have on VHS, so I am not in a hurry to watch them immediately, but I do know that I will want to watch them at some point.

Well I just bought Dirty Harry remastered DVD and I had that on the old version and VHS as well as a TV copy on VHS and I have seen that 50 times already.

Its wierd, and I guess we can all agree it DOES become somewhat of a habit > AQUIRE MORE - MUST AQUIRE MORE....
Personally I've about 170 or so, but I've maybe 10 - 15 to watch, but I prioratise these... even if I've seen them before - I guess I have to MAKE the time - mostly all nighters and the like...

I would say I think its a bit ridiculas to collect and not watch - this whole - I'll get around to it... will never really happen if a dozen more are chucked on the pile every couple of weeks...

I love the format, and I love film - but I my motives for buying them are to WATCH THEM!! :D

Horseflesh gets plently of grief from me on this subject, but the guy has a new baby, which will obviously make free time a luxury - but for the single / settled married guys - I think theres no excuse not to get stuck in... it's hardly work!! :D

Well, I have 165 and have watched about fifty of them. It really is the case of the buying of the bargain was more important than watching the actual film. So, while I try and pay my VISA off I have set myself the task of not buying anymore DVDs until I have watched all that I have.

Not doing too bad so far with ten viewed [and a couple, after viewing, wondered why I ever bought 'em] and only one bought for £1.50 (due to a friend buying off BensonWorld site).
Still it's my birthday next month and I have a list of what my family WILL get me. ;)

Boink!

Funny, the cost of my DVD collection is nearly the same as my VISA bill.....

I think DVD's are like music CD's - you will always have that certain few that you can happily watch/listen to countless times. My philosophy is that when I buy a film and watch it I always think about whether I will want to watch it again. If the answer is NO then I sell it - simple as that. I've done this with a lot of films recently (even films I've liked in the past and just wanted to see again in a better format) this was I can hopefully keep my collection to a manageable level (currently 175). My video collecting got way out of hand 400+ !! But happily by selling these now I can fund my DVD habit..... You get less money for the vids but replacing the films at a ratio of 3 to 1 seems logical to me !

As someone with a longstanding professional interest in film, a large number of the DVDs I buy are for reference – though after last year’s blowout coupled with moving in with my fiancée and having to save for our wedding and a house deposit I’ve reined things back considerably: yesterday’s Tears of the Black Tiger is one of just four DVDs I’ve bought since Christmas (the others being a Criterion triple-bill of 8½, Le Trou and That Obscure Object of Desire).

I get the feeling 2002 is going to be a major catching-up year more than a major purchasing one…

I've about 100 titles but I quite regularly offload stuff I don't want and replace with new stuff.

If I do buy something on spec then I will usually watch it within a couple of days but I seldom now buy a on spec. especially not if I can rent it first.

Other discs are usually of films I know and love and of my current hundred I'sd say I have about 10 totally unwatched and 40 partly watched (ie watched the movie but didn't do the extras).

Extras I often use as stop gaps since my staying power aint what it used to be and I easily O.D on too much of a good thing.

But I am trying to rent more these days. Limited time and money and the sure knowledge that in most cases I might only watch a movie once a year.

All of which is a very long-winded way of saying "10".

I've probably got about 30 that I haven't watched yet. The last 10 or so I have bought I have watched straight away. The ones I haven't watched tend to be things like The Godfather which I'm saving until I can watch them all within a day of each other.
