So, newswires this morning are alight with the news that HP is buying Palm. Given the company's relatively dire financial situation combined with flat market share across the last year (mainly due to Sprint, apparently), does everyone think this is going to save webOS/Palm Platform.

Or, do we think HP are going to muck it up by HP'arizing everything (what happened with Compaq).

I'm interested to see how quickly new hardware comes forward - I like the Pre, I like the software, but wasn't overly willing to invest into a platform with a troubled financial future. What does everyone else think?

I think its good new. I wish HTC had bought them but I don't think HP are too bad. WebOS is awesome and hopefully they have the resources to really make it a success. Can't wait to see some WebOS tablets and nicer phone hardware.

Can't see this as a good thing. HP aren't the company of innovation that they used to be, they'll just strip the technology, sack the people and stuff it into their crap hand held product line (I really hate the ipaq **** that I have to use as a work phone). From some of the rumours I've heard they bought it before Dell could.

I hope I'm wrong, I like the Pre. So maybe they'll give us decent phones :D
