Finally assembled my home cinema kit together, but am getting really annoyed as there is no sound coming out, if anyone can give me some idiot proof advice it would be gratefully recieved.Of course a piece of kit could be broken.
For the record my Sony 32 FX65 tv is connected to my Sony 525 DVD player via RGB scart lead.My DVD player is then connected to my Marantz SR4200 amp via a digital co-axial lead ( DVD digital OUT to Amp digital INPUT ) and then finally the amp is connected to my Mission FS2 av speakers via the active sub.
When I tried watchinga film DD and DTS no sound comes out except for the sub rumbling.I know the satellites work because I plugged them in my Hi-fi and sound came out.
Am I missing something obvious and being stupid I just dont know.
Thanks for any help given,
Sergio B.

so what you're saying is that you only have the sub connected to your amp ? if that's all oyu have connected to it, then all you will hear are the bass notes, as the amp only outputs bass frequencies on the subwoofer output.

are there spring clips or binding posts on the speakers to connect them to your amp ? and if so, why haven't you done so (forgive my ignorance of the mission kit - i know it's a nxt product, but haven't seen it in the flesh and don't know if they have any special connectors).

With the DVD player connected to the TV by a scart connection you should get sound out of the TV speakers. Make sure you have not muted the TV or turned the sound down. This will give you confidence the=at the dvd player is working.

Does the amplifier have an option to set up the speakers by playing a tone thru them? If so this will confirm the connections to the speakers, without having to worry about the dvd player. Alternatively, if it has a radio reveiver use that to check the sound.

If thse two tests work, try playing an audio cd on the dvd player to see if that works.

The whole exercise is to isolate the problem to one component.

Good luck

also check in your dvd player menu that the dvd player is outputing the digital bitstream there usualy is a menu in the dvd player to set this.

With the FS-AV speakers, you get an "umbilical" cord which connects the amp to the subwoofer unit (it has 5 speaker wires and a subwoofer phono lead in it). You then connect the flat panel speakers to the subwoofer unit using normal speaker cable.

Assuming this is done, switch to the radio tuner in the receiver, and see if you get sound. If so, then at least you know the amp and speaker setup is OK. Then check the settings on the amp and DVD player (check the DVD is setup to output digital bitstream sound, and that the amp is set up so that when you switch to DVD it looks at the correct digital input).
