Im looking for a Jackie Chan film
A serious traditional kung foo style fight film
A bit like Drunken master but without the comedy.
Must be a clasic style, clasic costumes, and based more on fighting than stunts and story.......
any body have any sugestions ?
I already own Drunken master 1 & 2, and Snake in the eagle shadow.
I know the Lei woo Long from Tekken series, was based on Chan.
But was it base on any one film ?
Thanks for any advice guys.

The young Master is a good one but it does have some comical elemnt in it as with 95 % of jackies stuff. theres also the fearless hyena 1+2 and eagle shadow fist.
Hope this helps

You're going to find it hard to find a 'serious' Chan flick post Lo Wei (at least one that is any good) as after SITES & DM he was pretty much sterotyped into those kind of roles; and that is what he does best :D. Why don't you check out the HKMB here (http://www.hkmdb.org) Perhaps Miracles or Crime Story?

Might I suggest you steer clear of the Golden Harvest stable and look into some Shaw Brothers flicks! (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54749)

  Never, ever recommend Fearless Hyena 2 to anyone you cruel sod!! :D (Fearless hyena 1 is a good film though!)
If you're looking for an old school JC film without the humour, then I'm afraid you're gonna have to watch the Lo Wei films, & they ain't pleasant!!
Out of the Lo Wei/JC films that i've watched, the only ones I could recommend would be Shaolin Wooden Men (AKA: Shaolin Chamber of Death) & Fearless Hyena 1. You could also check out the R0 HK DVD of Hand Of Death. It's a John Woo Fu-film , with JC in a supporting role & it's decent enough.
If I was you, i'd bugger JC off & follow Gary Cowells advice!
Also check out HKL Samo Hung films like Iron Fisted Monk & Magnificent Butcher.
The Victim is another film that demands to be seen by every serious kung fu fan!

Seconded :)
I think Lei woo Long was based on Ka Kui Jackie Chan's character in police story, but his fighting stlye is a mixture of all Jackie Chan characters.
what about Project A or Wheels on Meals?

They both contain JC humour.
Does it have to be a JC flick ?.
Personally, I'd reconmend Under Siege starring Steven Seagal.;)
For old skool - it has to be -
Magnificent butcher
Prodigal Son
Today I watched The Buddhist Fist (R1) and it came close to these films.
Only a handful of JC films are without comedy - and even fewer in a traditional style.
Fearless Hyena has some comedy, but not as much as others. Shaolin Wooden Men is also worth tracking down, but the DVD's aren't good.
Crime Story is very serious but features little martial arts.
If u want the same style of fighting as Drunken Master, but in a serious film, then check out many Shaw Brothers stuff, as well as stuff directed by Sammo HUng and Yuen Woo-ping from the late 70's - early 80's. (although a lot of this features comedy)
Some good ones:
The Victim
Warriors Two
Odd Couple
Magnificent Butcher
8 Diagram Pole Fighter
Martial Club
Spooky Encounters 1
Prodigal Son.
Shaolin Temple series (Jet Li - pt 2 is more comedic)
Hong Kong movies very often contain high levels of broad humour - even in serious films, and is often an acquired taste. However, the best Martial Arts action is often found within these films (if u haven't seen Prodigal Son, then do so immediately)
also - try putting Jackie Chan into the search engine on the site in my signature.

ill look for them on dvd soon
also i saw "Snake in the monkey shadow" on dvd in HMV

Now that we've recommended Fearless Hyena & Shaolin Wooden Men to you, i think it's only fair to warn you against buying the Eastern Heroes JC DVDs! Fearless Hyena has had a R2 release by Eastern Heroes & if Shaolin Wooden Men hasn't, it will soon. Anyway, these DVDs are atrocious, as they're cropped from 2.35:1 to 4:3 then cropped again to 16:9!!! You see bugger all of the original picture!!
Anyway, if you want to get those 2 titles, get the US DVDs, as I know that fearless Hyena has a decent disc which is in the film's OAR.
As for Young Master, HKL are releasing this later in the year. :)
(Don't know anything about Snake in the Monkey's shadow btw, sorry)
If you only stick to JC titles though Darkmiss, then you're shooting yerself in the foot, as JC isn't the be-all & end-all of the HK film industry. In fact, he's just one player in a genre filled with equally talented & even more skillful people. Start branching out dude! :D
Wise words regarding the Eastern Heroes releases - don't touch!
The US have 2 releases of Fearless Hyena - 1 is full screen, the 2nd is widescreen, so be careful (the fullscreen one is often dirt cheap)
As for Snake in the Monkey's shadow - its nothing to do with Jackie - so if he's pictured on it, don't be mislead! However its quite entertaining, but there are many others you should seek out first!
You mentioned you liked Snake in the eagle's shadow, so i'd heartily recommend these:
Game of Death 2 (no - really!)
Prodigal Son (best kung fu film ever??)
Magnificent Butcher
The Victim
Warriors Two
Anything old school with Sammo is likely to be fantastic. (and better than Jackie's ;) )
