View Full Version : Sony 725 DVD Broken?
Hi folks
I have a multiregion Sony 725 which is about 2.5 years old now. It was originally bought in Dubai, and has always had a strange problem, which has now got even worse!
The player seems very sensitive to movement, and position. It has a habit of switching itself off at random times!
Dry Joint or laser alignment problem I don't know? But now It is very bad, and needs to be repaired.
Any ideas of who to contact re: repairs?
I work in Richmond, Surrey & live in Kingston

Local Hi-Fi/Sony shop should do.
Hi Limey
I can sympathise with your situation,my sony 725 developed this prob as well and got so much worse ,it is just over 2.5 yrs old also .
Apparently this is a common prob,my machine is now destined for the bin as it won't even switch on now,
The fault developed into a state that to switch it on you had to repeatedly tap the play button until it came on and even then it would switch itself off after a few minutes viewing.
I sent my player off to be repaired and was informed that it had burnt out capacitors in the power supply stage these were replaced and cured the prob for about a month when the prob developed all over again.
If you are going to get it repaired I hope you have more luck than me,as I am now considering the marantz 6200 from justin our forum sponsor.
I know this does'nt help your request for where to send your machine so sorry but I thought I'd let you know that you are'nt the only one to have this prob.
Hey Antz, thanks for the reply.
At least I know that it's a common problem now, it maybe best not to try and get it fixed if that's the case.
It is a shame though, I really like this player. It was top of the range when i got it, and my replcaement Sony NS300 is pants in comparison (lack of features).
oh well, any good repairers out there? That's the problem...i have had bad experience before trying to get VCRs fixed nevermind DVD players!
