Anyone else catch this on Channel 4 just now?

While it wasn't as exciting as the American debates and with little for the candidates to get excited about, I thought it was well-run, balanced and generally pointed out how little there is to choose between the main parties.

Darling seemed relaxed (probably enjoying being out of No.11 for a while), Cable got a couple of rounds of applause for landing a couple of jab but if anything Osborne didn't mask his disdain for Darling particularly well.

Hopefully the Prime Minister debates will involve actual fisticuffs, chair-throwing and burly security guards being called upon to separate the candidates.

I watched it. Sounded like they all want to be best friends.

Yeah I saw it, interesting enough. Vince seemed to come out with the most sense. No one seemed to want to come across as an arse, so reasonably polite all round.

Osbourne has no right to be (Shadow) Chancellor. He's just a lacky in a nice suit.

Nobody challenged Cable at all on anything he said.

Darling coasted through on his "experience".

Overall I think Georgie Boy had the most to lose and lost it.

Vince came accross very well... *gasp* he also got the best audience reaction at quite a few points.

Osbourne is a complete chinless wonder, well so is Cameron, but at least he has some shred of charisma.

Surprised how well Captain Darling came out of it.

If Osbourne is allowed to be in charge of the coffers, i'd be very worried about the future of this country.

Alistair is the only strong Labour MP and the only one i have any respect for (standing up to brown etc).

I'm sure Osborne is equally capable and be excellent at his job, but he is a terrible orator and doesn't have a good speaking voice, which shakes confidence. if i was him i would get speaking lessons asap like Thatcher did in the 80's, but i think the damage has already been done

Cable on the other hand was just trying to say all the popular things to get appluse, he knows he'll have no power anyway so he won't have to back up any comments

Osbourne keeps saying (and did last night) "Everyone knows that if you have personal debt, the only way foward is to tighten your belt to pay it back" - I'm paraphrasing from memory but that is the jist of it.

I hardly think paying back a £20,000 personal loan is the same as paying back National Debt!

By all accounts Darling hates Brown as much as the rest of us, so he's got that going for him.

I quite agree!

George Osborne was shown to not have a single clue about what to do with anything! He even indicated that Barclays was supported by the tax payer which is a complete lie!

I really do hope people vote either Lib Dem or Labour.

If we get the Conservatives in the economy may well be a lot worse off than it is now.

Even if the conservatives had Steven Fry as their leader, I still don't think I could vote for them on principle. With that **** Cameron in there they've got no chance with me. Labour need kicking out so that leaves the Lib Dems.
