View Full Version : Rugged phones?

Aside from an old episode of The Gadget Show, I'm struggling to find a decent list of rugged phones for outdoor use - does anyone use one (or know of any recent ones)?

Doesn't have to be super water-right (not underwater) or serious bashproof, just something that someone who owns a stables will use day to day so might get a wet in the rain and dropped a bit. Internet enabled but aside from that, just a basic phone really.

I can find some ones you can buy outright but are there any on contract with any of the networks? (so that unlimited internet can go with contract)

Try either the Samsung B2100 (http://www.samsung.com/baltic/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/GT-B2100XKASEB/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail) or Sonim XP1 (http://www.toughestphone.com/)

Had a play with the samsung a while ago and it was ok, pretty basic but none of the rugged phones have ever had great specs.

From what I can see you can get the samsung on various networks.

I got my sister a couple of the Samsung B2700's (1st one got stomped on my a maoosive horse, less than a week old), but the 2nd one seems pretty robust so far... (My sister can kill a phone in minutes, but the 2nd one of these has lasted so far!)

available from Play: Samsung B2700 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2&url=http://www.play.com/HOME/HOME/6-/Search.html?searchstring=b2700&searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0) for £120 sim-free/unlocked

Hi,

After going through 3 iPhones in a similar environment, I've gone for a new iPhone but wrapped it up in an OtterBox case.

I got it from http://www.cleverkit.com/products/copy-of-iphone-3g-3gs-yellow-case-defender-otterbox.html.

You can get them in different colours and it doesn't add too much bulk to the phone.

Yes, it toughens it up. Mine has been driven over with no damage. Awesome bit of kit.
