Nine games left in the season makes no sense.

Bonkers. I reckon they will 'do a Charlton' and drop like a stone without him

That'll make all the difference?????

I think he's a massive berk, but after getting Hull promoted and keeping them up, I would have thought he deserved to remain as manager until the end of the season...unless there's something more to it than results on the pitch.

Chairman Adam Pearson revealed the club's board felt it had to act now to try to keep Hull in the top flight.

Insane that losing in the 93rd minute to Arsenal costs someone their job, I know it's cumulative but that shouldn't be the final straw.

Really stupid time of year to sack someone, unless they've got someone already lined up but even then it seems they won't have anywhere near enough time to make a difference.

Oh well.

You have to give them credit for not sacking him last summer. Given what he acheived last time you'd probably expect him to do better this season than he has. If they bring a new manager in now, they could get a few extra points which would be enough to save them even if the manager himself isn't that good.

He kept a club that should have been relegated in the top flight for a season and they sack him for it. This is the problem, you keep them up and they get used to the money and the perks and cannot contemplate going back down again.

Sadly for Hull I don't think they'll realise what a good job he's done until they find out what life is like without them.

Pretty sure he won't be massively fussed though, sure plenty of clubs would like a manager of his calibre

Personally I thought Brown was an idiot but its still a stupid time to sack a manager and I shall miss him for the chants aimed at him during Hull's away games.

"Tanned in the morning, you are getting tanned in the morning" was a personal favourite

Madness, know mater who they get as their new manager the new guy isn't going to have much opportunity to get them to stay up either. Some of these chairmen really haven't a clue how to run football clubs. They only stayed up last year due to the superb first half of the season and for me they are a club they have being punching about their weight.

I concur.

IIRC when Charlton binned Curbishely they said that he had taken the club as far as he could. Boy were they proven right

OMG things get worse for Hull fans, Megson is the favourite.

Megson isn't too bad, who else? Graham Souness? Ron Atkinson?

i might put my name down. can't do much worse.....

they should have got rid at christmas really. his results in 2009 were not good at all.

it kinda makes sense though, as if they stay up the board can say it was because of the new manager, but if they go down the board can say the damage was already done.

Why wait for them to be relegated before making the change?
If the board have no faith, better to act now whilst they are still have a chance to stay up.

Hopefully no Premiership clubs. I was hoping to be rid of him if Hull went down. :(

I really don't like him, but I think they've probably been waiting to do this since Adam Pearson came back as chairman. They've given him quite a bit of time to improve results and he's not done it, but I think it's mainly about the financial trouble Hull have gotten into under his reign by signing quite a few players with no decent resale value. Obviously, the previous chairman is chiefly responsible for that, but at times they looked like a comedy double act.

Will only be a good decision though if they can bring in someone with decent credentials as replacement though (I assume they already know who that is, but who knows!)

He'd be ok in the short term, it's his personality (or lack of) that is his problem. Total opposite of Sunbed.

I don't see anyone coming in and making the current players do any better. It's not as if they are under-performing.

Glad to see the back of the odious **** stirring orange prick.

Madness to see Hull sack him so near the end of the season but well played Bendtner I say.

Well he was a bit of a character - so the premier league may have lost out in that regard ... personally didn't particularly like him myself. But maybe this has something to do with the handling of the public spat between two of his players a week or so ago.

Certainly think that Hull will get what they deserve now though as no chance they will stay up after this stupid decision (if it is purely footballing) - they were punching way above their weight under Brown.;)

Charlton didn't bin Curbishley though, he left on his own accord after rejecting a contract extension.

Avram Grant has apparently said no to Hull:

So it looks like Dowie is taking over, that's Hull relegated then.

I heard the reason Brown was sacked was that his position had become untanable.

I'm here all week.

Why is it the crap clubs always seem to reach into the same pool of crap managers?

There are a good few managers who have taken the easy option of sitting in a TV studio for the rest of their days, dishing out their opinions for more money and less stress.

Iain Dowie is far too ugly to take this route.

A change near the end of the season can make a difference though. Udo Lattek at Dortmund being a memorable example.

He might chalk out a couple of wins, its quite likely with a new man in charge the team has a boost. In a way they may have done it at the right time, they'll get the few results boost but there are so few games left he won't have time for them to revert back to their old ways.

I suppose they went for him because he was one of the few who took the job, I would think that if Avram Grant won't take your job you are in trouble

He could keep them up by getting a couple of wins where they might not have done, but I guess the paramount thing would be that he was pretty cheap.

From what I have read about Dowie, he's great at motivating and getting players working (why he was taken on as assman to Shearer) but is tactically rubbish.

I think the bottom 3 at the end of the season will be the same as it is now.

Hull have some good players but no doubt the older ones are on good money and they wont be able to get rid when they drop so will have to get straight back up to avoid meltdown.

I'm surprised Southgate hasn't been touted as a replacement.

Heard somewhere that Hull have the 8th biggest wage bill in the division. The sooner some of these clubs get a reality check the better.

Hull have a great run-in, if he keeps them up then he'll get the job permanently and they'll be in exactly the same situation next season!
