Ok Lynch fans out there. I really want to get my hands on the Remastered Short films and Eraserhead DVDs currently selling only from davidlynch.com.
As you are probably aware shipping to here in the UK is a:nuts: $28.50 for a single disc. The shipping drops a lot however, if you buy more than one disc.
I am taking it upon myself to place a bulk order on behalf of Forum members/Lynch fans who want a copy of either discs or both so that we don't have to pay such silly prices.
To Compare: if you are going to buy on your own:
One DVD = $68.44/£48.37
Two DVDs = $109.38/£77.31
However if I were to place an order for, say, 15 DVDs, costs come down to:
One DVD = $42.77/£30.24
Two DVDs =$85.55/£60.45
So basically you would save yourself about £18/£17 on a bulk purchase of either one or both discs.
If you are after both discs you may decide that £8/9 a disc saving is not worth the little bit of extra hassle of getting involved in this thread but if you were just after one disc then I think it is definately worth it.
Anyway, before thing go any further I need to see if there is enough interest in the idea to be worth the bother.
So, please post your interest here, with email address if it's not in your profile. There is no commitment at this stage but bear in mind if it does happen I would need your money up front. I am hoping to get the UK postage for me to send them on for nothing, so don't worry about that at this stage.
There is no particular rush as the Eraserhead DVD is not out till April so I will leave this thread active for a week or so, then if between 15-20 people are interested I think it will be worth it and we can take it from there.
To keep things simple the bulk order will be for a combination:
Short Films DVD
Eraserhead DVD
BlueBoB CD
If you are after anything else-posters/badges/t-shirts etc, I'm afraid you'll have to order yourself as things will get far to complicated.
To be clear - I will be making NO profit from this, I just have a little time on my hands over the next few weeks and want to save myself and others a few quid.
Let me know Lynch fans.
Maybe the mods would consider making this sticky or putting it in the classified forum instead or as well as here. I hope this is OK with the mods.
:)
EDIT: I have now heard back from Lori at DL.com customer support and she is more than happy to do what she can to avoid customs charges at our end.
Put me down for a copy of Eraserhead.
You're a good man, dunkrag, one of the best. You're doing us Lynch fans a big favour (at least, I presume you are! ;))

Hell yes my good man! Put me down for both dvds, But I'm not down with the whole credit card vibe as I don't own one:( would a cheque be cool?
It'll have to be a cheque from myself as well, I'm afraid.
Guys-don't worry. I am not a shop so have no way of processing a CC and would also never expect you guys you trust me with your CC numbers! :D
If it gets as far as placing the order then the payments would have to be cheque/cash/postalorder.

Count me in for both DVDs and the Blue Bob CD!
Great idea dunkrag - this is what makes The DVD Forums the site it is!
EDIT - Just thought, if you did want to accept CC payments, you could always set up a PayPal account or something similar. Anyway, thanks again!
If your going to order that many dvd's won't Her Majesty's Customs want a piece of you?
 Was thinking the same thing yesterday evening when I read the original post.
I would like both DVD's as well. Let me know where to send the cheque to.
TinTin - Customs are going to want a piece of the action even if you order the DVD's individually.

Boy do I want a piece of this!! Great idea dunkrag and much appreciated by those of us who don't have C/Cards (heck I can't even subscribe to the dang site :()
So would you please put me down for one of each DVD for the time being? I dunno about the Blue Bob CD at the mo although I sure would have loved it if you'd been doing T-shirts too - them angry dogs - I wan't 8 of those suckers. One for every day of the week and one to sleep in at night. One day. One day.
EDIT::::: In light of Jazzatola's comment (below) put me in for a Blue Bob too (I gonna be poor man but the Spring it is a comin').

For anyone unsure about this, you may have heard some of the music in Mulholland Drive. The tracks Mountains Falling and Go Get Some appear on the movie soundtrack and the Blue Bob CD.
From what I can remember, Mountains Falling plays over the dinner party scene near the end of the movie. It's reminiscent of The Pink Room from Fire Walk With Me too if that's any help.
Anyway, just buy it! :)
Great idea, put me down for the lot too.. thanks :-)
Wow - I'm amazed at the response here so far and the thread hasn't even been up a day!
I realise that customs may be a concern for some if not all. Bottom line is that if customs are going to stop something they are going to stop it.
However, after speaking to Lori at DL.com yesterday by email it doesn't sound like they have boxes big enough for more than 3 or 4 discs anyway - the shipping boxes are specially made (black with David Lynch written over them). So, the plan is to keep up a dialog with her over the next couple of weeks before any order is placed then I will try and arrange for her to individually ship the discs to everyone who places an order with a customs friendly amount marked on the box.
Anyway, ordering is a few weeks away, I just wanted to see if there was enough interest and there obviously is so I won't be wasting my time.
Keep the responses coming.
I'd be interested in both the DVDs.

Put me down for both DVDs mate
Great idea you've had - hope it's all going to work out
I'd be interested in both dvds too.
Nochex be ok?
EDIT - Put me back on the list! I'll go for both, it's only money! Now that is settled, no more changing my mind!

It's a stereo mix based on the early '80s stereo remix of the original mono soundtrack.
According to a recent chat on the website, Lynch said he had no interest in creating a new surround mix as, in the case of Eraserhead, all the sound was supposed to come from the direction of the screen to draw the viewer into the film. He felt sound coming from the surrounds would be a distraction and wouldn't be true to his original intent.
So, when are we going to put our money where our mouth is? When Eraserhead is released?

Thanks for the info, pmdf. The soundtrck of Eraserhead has to be one of the most appropriate and well judged ever created, and I was interested in how much it had been altered. I heard the stereo mix really cranked up in a cinema once and it was one of the most oppressive, frightening movie experiences ever.
All together now: "In heaven, everything is fine..." :D
Dunkrag, If it's not to late please put me done for Eraserhead!:)
Likewise dunkrag, if you're still taking requests can you put my name down for a copy of Eraserhead? Many thanks and good luck!
Thanks for the great response guys. Obviously this is an idea worth pursuing.
As soon as Eraserhead is available for preorder I will start a new thread and email everyone on this one so far, with detailed prices and delivery details and ask people to email me with confirmed orders if they wish to have copies at the cheaper price. I anticipate leaving a window of 7 days for people to respond then the offer will be closed and I will place the order.
Nobody is commited to anything at this stage - you will only have commited once you have replied to my email with a confirmed order.
When the time comes I will take payment by cheque, postal order or nochex.
I'll keep you posted.

Anyone know what the specs are for these films.
I'm interested in Eraserhead but I'd like to know what I'm getting for what would be by far and away the most expensive disc I've ever bought.
Yeash, put me down for both DVD's. it's about time I got the definitive version of Erasurehead ;)

Put me down for a copy of the short films.
I'd like both of these too please. Should shipping to Ireland be a problem??
Many thanks, Ronan.
I'm interested in both..
Anyone know the aspect ratio yet ?
The Jap release is 1.85:1, and our Universal release was 1.33:1, and quite a nice transfer..
It's 1.85:1, and I've heard mention that it's anamorphically enhanced - though I haven't seen any confirmation of this so don't take it as gospel. Apparently Lynch has spent a lot of time himself cleaning up the print as well, so it's looking really promising.

1.85:1 was the original ratio for theatrical release of Eraserhead.
For all those wondering about the Eraserhead transfer, this article (http://www.dugpa.com/article.html) might be of some interest.

Since this disc is not only being personally supervised by David Lynch but also self-distributed, it is absolutely inconceivable that it will be anything other than the correct aspect ratio - I'm amazed that the question's even arising!
Found this interesting titbit from the Twin Peaks Gasette forum posted by John Neff, whose been working with Lynch on the new transfers of Elephant Man, FWWM, Blue Velvet and the Eraserhead disc.
''I will say that on the Eraserhead DVD, we've taped about four hours of Dave talking about the time, and the people. No commentary, no explanations ("John, in almost thirty years, I've NEVER answered a question about The Baby!"), but wonderful stories. They have been edited down to about an hour, and we have one more interview session this week. I don't know how much will end up on the DVD, it's partially a digital real estate issue, but I think you will like it.''
It was posted on March 05, in reponse to comments on how bad the FWWM documentary is and the fact that Lynch hates DVD extras mainly because he doesn't have control over them - That wont apply to the Eraserhead disc of course.
So looks like we may get some interesting extras on this one.
I remember reading on some semi-official Lynch website about a year ago that he'd found some old deleted footage from Eraserhead that he wanted to put on the DVD.
Following the FWWM fiasco and his apparent thumbs-up for the deleted scenes on Blue Velvet (he's recently quoted as saying in an MSN chat that there was one deleted scene in particular he was desperate to find for the release), it might just happen...
Also I think PCM stereo is highly likely, given his Short Films compilation is presented as such, and the soundtrack needs every tiny detail preserved.
Oooh, I can't wait! :D

put me down for eraserhead, i might change this to 2 copies nearer the street date so let me know when your about to order!

I'm new to the forums and just found this thread, if it's not too late can you put me down for a copy of each DVD.
Thanks, Justin
I've only just joined the forums and found this thread, could you put me down for a copy of each DVD if it's not too late!

thanks
Both DVD's & CD for me please...
If I'm not too late
Both DVDs for me please, if it's not to late.
Cheers
Time to close this thread. I have somewhere in the region of 50 discs wanted!!! If we (or I) can pull this off I'll be stunned! Anyway, I will give it me best shot. If DL.com play along but will only supply 20 discs at the reduced rate we may have to do a first come first served basis type thing.
Anyway, please close this thread - I have everyone's username and email (if it was in your profile) so look out for an email in the next couple of weeks or so. I'll also post an update thread when I have more news. I won't forget!!

OK, I've resisted for a while now - they are quite expensive DVD's - but they do seem a bit too good to pass up on!
Put me down for both DVD's, please.

Yikes! Hope I got in on time there, dunkrag? Got sidetracked while typing this post.
