Picked up a PS3 slim today - my daughter is going to use it for games and I will watch Blue ray on it

well was not a big job hooking it up to my Sony amp and Sony TV... hired the Terminator 4 movie for its test run getting the full HD sound was nice

the soundtrack on this movie is really top notch, the picture is also very good
I was pretty worried about having the PS3 as my blue ray player due to quite a lot of folks moaning about the drive/fan noise on quiet movie moments
well I can happily report no such problems

and it was nice to see 'DTS HD' on the front LCD of my surround Amp

so all in all my daughter seems very happy and I am with this new Slim machine

must add that I have a blue ray LG writer in my PC that plays my blue rays uptill now but streaming from upstairs is a pain sometimes so this new setup is looking a nice alternative

T4 is something I need to get around to watching as I've heard a number of good things about the soundtrack.

A recommendation would be No Country For Old Men, I've only seen the DVD version but have the Blu Ray on my to watch pile. For me it was an incredible use of sound, possible the best sound use in a film I've seen, as it picks up little movements and things rather than trying to blast you.

Now that you have got a PS3 you must start referring to blu-ray without putting in an unnecessary and incorrect "e" :)

Why do Sony fans always feel the need to name their products my name dropping brands? Did we really need to know it was a Sony amp and a Sony TV?

Because if anyone was going to offer any tips or helpful info regarding setup etc knowing what equipment its hooked upto can be pretty useful, to some one such as me who knows zero about games consoles:thumbs:

I am always interested in other owners of the Sony DG820 amp and how they've set it up etc.

But surely in that case, one would need to know model numbers, no? I mean, just throwing the name Sony in front of every product you own wouldn't really help surely?

In fairness - he could've also said it was a 'Sony' PS3 Slim....

That's because it is a slimline unit.

They are very nice, virtually silent and they run considerably cooler than the older ones as well

He could have waited 3 months to say it also. :D

That phat are virtually silent as well. got a slim for the downstairs TV now and a phat upstairs in my bedroom. The only real difference is the phat pumps out a crazy amount of heat. Which is not much fun this summer

The slims are nowhere near silent, they make a right old racket and are far too noisy to be a dedicated blu-ray player. I think people have different tolerance levels over what constitutes noise. There's a guy on another forum who swapped his PS3 Slim 7 times all because of internet forums spreading the myth of the silent PS3, each one had a fan that ramped up in stages within the hour. Quiet compared to a 360 for sure but ridiculously loud for a product which promotes itself as a credible blu-ray player.

The newer PS3 will be much smaller and make no noise at all, size of a power brick i've heard Jimmyboy

I'm guessing it varies from player to player. My nephew's is virtually silent... and I have a tolerance level of zero :D
