Surely this has to be fake, are these people real?

I found myself wondering that too - they are just soooo out there - very entertaining though ... is it a series? A one off? I think I've caught the same episode 3 or 4 time now and watched different parts each time.

Tell you what though - I forget his name ... the really camp guy with the lisp - damn he can dance!

It's a series. Harry Hill has had clips on TV Burp twice now. Mental.

I've only seen this on TV Burp but had to find this thread just to comment on Louie Spence. Never have I seen a man so fist-gnawingly camp. He's like some 70s gay stereotype turned all the way up to 11.

OH and I are becoming addicted to it (6:00pm Sunday Sky1 for the new episodes). We still can't work out if its a Spinal Tap type doco or if its real. The main people are real from what I can find searching around the web but it surely must be massively hammed up if not totally acted surely?!

that scene where he hid from the dancing cops, that was bizarre beyond belief.

this programme is rapidly becoming an obsession.

Louie Spence is amazing in a way you just cant stop watching him even though hes unbearable - its like he just cannot NOT perform if there is a camera on him.

this weeks episode had the most awful awful video being done by some crazy woman. here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl5YZF0rslA

that was topped only by an unbearable bloke trying to become a pop star and trying to get a record deal:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZVWHIpiSJg

Added to all that insanity, it is actually quite interesting to see a different world of how dancers live and rehearse for shows etc....

louie spence makes the programme though - totally insane.

I worked with some dance / performance people in the past and they really are that mental, so if you put a camera on them I would imagine it will make them even worse

Very addictive viewing and its the little touches of genius like some of the lines they have Michael Buerk read-out.

I bet all it took to get a series commissioned was someone taking in a tape of "a day at work with Louie Spence" they'd done on their camcorder.

This programme is so cringeworthy but somehow me and the gf can't stop watching it.

Some of the situations have us believing that it must be an office type mockumentary. But then you realise that all these jazz hands lovies must be in their absolute element and really could be that weird.

Andrew Stone....what a tosser. Surely there is nobody on this planet more deserving of a shoeing? The band 'manager' isn't much better.

The masterstroke by far was getting Michael Beurk to do the voiceover. I wonder what he must be thinking when he's recording it...

As mad Louie Spence is, he can actually dance...

Yes, thought the last episode was almost poignant in the way it revealed some of Louie's history. He's camp beyond belief, but you could see he was very good at what he did and no doubt inspiring.

Quite why the old dame of a dance teacher was trying to get him to match the technique of her 20 yr old students was rather puzzling though. He's the 40yr old art director or whatever of the studio, so why would he need to bother?

As for Andrew Stone. That guy is a tool of the highest order, but his delusions only make the whole thing more hilarious. The show in front of the industry types was some truly cringeworthy stuff. Also, his completely hopeless manager is good comedy value too.

Indeed it is.. utterly fantastic TV..

As said earlier in the thread Michael Buerke doing the deadpan voiceover makes the show complete genius..

I gave up on it a few weeks ago tbh. It was just SO cringeworthy that neither me or the OH could take it any more.

It was the ep when Starman got offered the record deal but only if the girl was the lead/co-lead and they turned it down. The look on the guys face...

Got to love the delusional Andrew Stone and his "Minders" as he heads off to the gig at an old folks home lol

Still a highlight of the weekly viewing here. Andrew Stone is indeed genius, some of his comments and mannerisms are very Alan Partridge. I have to admit though, at least he's giving it a go and also paying his way with a day job.

Can't believe the series is almost over though, gutted. I also think we should change the "fake" in the thread title to "genius".

I have watched nearly all the episodes in about a week, it is quite addictive. Also there is some nice eye candy from the lady dancers :n0rty: . I wish they would drop Tricia Walsh Smith, she is just a waste of oxygen.

I do wonder which parts are real and which are made up. Andrew Stone totally murders Lionel Richie's Hello, and seems to be constantly late to his lessons. Jesus is funny, we need more of him.

Cant believe this has finished it has been compulsive watching! even my OH has got into this. Andrew Stone is just funny cringeworthy tv, Louie is genius going to miss him.

I agree that Tricia walsh is annoying with her rubbish videos wish she had fallen of that cliffe they were filming on! as for the lobster king......

only saw the last episode the other day, with the o2 event - i loved his dance to his husband at the end, was awesome and very touching.

was annoyed when i looked around for more about lekiddo, lord of the lobsters (who I think is brilliant :-) that you could apply for free tickets to the o2 show.

I missed so many episodes of this that at least i can find them and get more of the joy :-)

A couple of papers today reporting there won't be a second series as Sky can't come to an agreement with the owner. But there's talk of Louie going off on his own to setup his own dance studio and they'll cover that instead.

Edit: Official now. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10281958.stm)

Shame, I wonder if Debbie Moore is actually as stupid as she seems on the show or it is an act. Whilst Louis was the star, the other characters were good entertainment too and it will be a shame to not see them again.

Considering the popularity of the show, it seems crazy that they could not come to an agreement for a second season. I guess someone was being greedy.

Richie
10-06-2010, 14:34
Debbie Moore is obviously not stupid and is a rather astute businesswoman. Chances are she realised that the show (however entertaining) does rather devalue her brand somewhat. It's probably best left as a one series wonder as the last few episodes were really struggling to find interesting material (witness the endless crap with Crazy Eyes and her "music" videos that had bugger all to do with Pineapple).
Louie certainly deserves his own show. :D

davey1970
10-06-2010, 17:20
agree with all that except the Louie should have his own show - I think he's brilliant, but it's because he was "natural" in that completely fake way of his - will they do the usual shove him in front of a chat show and make it stupidly scripted? though to be fair that's usually channel 4. I can't think of anything they could give him that would be appropriate AND good quality?
He should be on quiz shows though - buzzcocks, have i got news for you (that would be rather enjoyable) etc... though obviously that isn't enough for a career for him.

Richie
10-06-2010, 17:24
He was doing Top Gear today apparently! Should be interesting! :D

Louis said on Chatty Man that it is coming back but it will be called Show Business.

The Bear

I don't know what's worse, admitting that you watched Chatty Man or admitting it in a Pineapple Dance Studios thread.

surfer_chicky
08-07-2010, 09:01
I only watched Chatty man for Louie! but yes coming back with 'Show Buisness'

The only reason it is not Pineapple is because they gave 2 weeks or something to agree to series 2, and it hadnt been aired yet and as Louie said it is a buisness not a tv show. They have west end rehearsals and big groups and bands pratising and its not fair on them if there is filming going on.
